Comments Thread For: WBO Advances Jose Ramirez Ahead of Teofimo Lopez, Jack Catterall Following Protest Of Recent Rankings

Jose Ramirez is now the number two contender to both junior welterweight titles that were previously in his possession. A three-week review process conducted by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) ended with Ramirez advancing in its junior welterweight rankings, the sanctioning body revealed late Sunday evening. The former WBC/WBO titlist was one of three boxers required to plead their case with the WBO, joining former lineal and unified lightweight titlist Teofimo Lopez and previous mandatory challenger Jack Catterall in filing such a petition.

I like Ramirerz and he is tough, but Catterall should be 1 in all the sanctioning bodies. Lopez hasnt done anyhting to be ranked close to the top.

The ruling was based on the WBO’s Criteria Requirements, focusing on: positive professional record with special emphasis on boxers’ recent activities; positive amateur record with special emphasis on medals obtained in International and Olympic Tournaments; quality of competition; maintaining rating as a classified fighter; WBO regional titles previously held; Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) guidelines for objective and consistent criteria for ratings of professional boxers.

How about including robbery in the WBO criteria? Cause you know that matters.

An immediate rematch should be ordered before anything else.

That anyone can lobby for their place within them tells you what the rankings are worth.

Jesus! What is happening here? Reason and justice from a boxing sanctioning authority?!?

The wisest decision that the WBO has made in a long time.
There's no way that Teofimo Lopez should have been installed at the # 2 ranking in the 140 pound division.
He had lost his last fight, and had nothing in the 140 pound division to earn such a high ranking.
If they we're going to him install into the ranking it should have been at # 10, and no higher than that.
As it is now the WBO looks like they don't know what they're doing as an organization in the sport of boxing.

Taylor should rematch Catterall, no matter what the rankings say

Definitely agree, Lopez doesn't deserve the #2 slot in a division in which he has never even fought.
