Davis fight was 2 and 1/2 years ago and Gamboa has obviously deteriorated even worse. Pillow-fisted track star fights for decision wins…no surprise Gamboa went the distance with him. Gamboa and Vargas were fed to the younger Pbc fighters in blatant mismatches..pretty sad.

Was unimpressed by Haney in the Gamboa fight. There were many instances where he was trying to move out of harms way before he even landed the shot he was throwing. Way too much unnecessary movement in that fight. He fought in an amateurish manner in that fight.

Since then he's sitting down on his shots more, fights at middle-close range more often and his skills are progressing. He's also stepped up his level of competition. His chin is his weak point but he's shown he has the grit to take a shot and stay standing despite being incredibly hurt.

Not sure why you brought up Haney though. I mean yeah its a common opponent but Cruz isn't close to Haney's level. Plus Haney will be undisputed champ and out of the division before Cruz sniffs a REAL title shot.

You mean younger fighters were put in against older former champs to prove themselves just like every other point in boxing history.

Why is it “sad” only when PBC does it ?

I like Cruz vs Ryan. Ryan called him out, so why not make it? It could be a huge win for Cruz and if his chin holds up, he can give Ryan hell. Even if Ryan does KO him, it's a solid win for Ryan since Tank couldn't knock him out. It would make even more logistical sense for Ryan-Tank. That and to see if Cruz is really the goods and if Ryan can shut his mouth up finally. I thought he was done calling out opponents? What happened to that? lol. I guess he noticed Cruz was more than easy pickings if he could get him in the ring. I think Cruz can come in and surprise Ryan by showing durability and if he lands those big shots on Ryan, I'm not sure Ryan can take them for that many rounds...

He only made $300K against Tank, not even sure he made that against Gamboa so there's a huge pay increase in accepting GB's offer. You"ll get the opportunity to really put yourself on the map by beating someone like Ryan, which would be an easy task according to the Ryan's haters on here. Seems to be a huge upside in letting Cruz head over to DAZN for a one off and beatdown Ryan right?....but yet they aren't keen on doing so,why not?

I just don't think any serious negotiations have taken place yet for it. If Cruz had the opportunity, he would jump to face Ryan in a heart beat. What does he have to fear? Ryan just went the distance in his last fight and never even dropped the dude. Cruz has decent pop and throws wild shots at times. The way Ryan hangs his chin out to dry, there is a good chance Cruz will get something in and I'm not sure Ryan will be able to take it this time.

Otherwise, if you're implying something to the effect that he would be scared of Ryan, I don't think there is a fighter on this planet scared of him but the opposite. They want him bad because it'll elevate their status if they can be the guy to take him out.

cmon man - prove themselves?? Cruz proved himself against Davis…so you are saying he needed a old punchy way past it Gamboa to “prove” himself? Younger fighters “prove” themselves against “gatekeeper” type fighters…not old shop worn faded fighters like Vargas and Gamboa who need to hang em up.

Obviously that fight was about building Cruz back after the loss. Gamboa still has name value and he’s shot enough that Cruz looked good in a ko win.

Ryan Garcia took notice so Cruz likely parlays this into a nice payday. This happens all the time in every era.

I just don’t see how it’s suddenly bad when pbc uses the same formula.

Cruz did not need to be “built back up” as if he suffered a ko loss or a beating against Davis. Ko’ing Gamboa(obviously as expected) did nothing to raise his stock..everyone took notice of Cruz bc of the Davis fight…he getting no accolades for the Gamboa fight.

He shouldn’t get accolades. He probably needed a win to make a bigger money guy like Ryan take notice because they tend not to fight guys coming off a loss.

Again, this formula is used often. Just don’t get why it’s a problem when pbc does it.
