“These other boys in the division, they fight once a year and then they go on vacation for eight months. I’ve never understood that.”

A lot of fighters fight for money, not legacy.

For many human beings, taking home even $100k for 8 weeks of work, is a lot of money. Yes, 8 weeks, because that is around how long a fight camp is. You have to take that in consideration when you say a fighter “fights once a year”. To be prepared for 3-4 fights a year, that means you have to stay in the gym for half a year, and stay living a “boot camp” style like 24/7, 365.

Yes Canelo fights 2-3 times a year, but he fights for legacy.

    Not every fighter wants that.

If you are taking home $200-300k for 8 weeks worth of work, you will go on vacation too. As a regular person who’s motivation is family and money first.

The boxers’ who’s motivation is legacy first, they are different but they are not the norm. Normal boxer motivation is money and family.

I would say that the money is not there because of boxers inactivity, these guy's are just not seen enough for the paying public to be interested in.

You'll get no argument from me on that if a fighter could pocket a quarter or a half mil a fight and fight 5 or 6 times year it'd be worth it

The more active a fighter is the sharper he becomes. As long as he is working on his game and not just going through the motions.

Boxers that fight just once or twice a year will never reach their peak potential.

So True! Fighters and ESPECIALLY FANS need to understand that not every fight needs to be a big fight, stay active give you acceptable reasons to take soft touches

So YES Canelo should be allowed to fight Ryder or Makabu in December, January or February after fighting F^CKING Bivol and GGG or the winner of Beterbiev vs Joe Smith then he can comeback May 2023 and take another big fight and Fans do need to STFU about it. The Cash Cow of the Sport should not be more active than YOU Prospects and Rising Contenders you should be EMBARRASSED actually

Tim is doing it right, staying ACTIVE because he is a Rising Contender

Many contenders are inactive, just like title-holders. For example, Tsyzu's next opponent Gausha last fought in March. Lubin fought once in 2020 and 2021. Harrison didn't fight in 2020 and fought once in 2021. The pandemic played a role in this extreme inactivity though. At minimum, boxers should aim for two fights a year.

He isn't lying, though! This is why most people miss the "old" days of boxing...most of those guys were just that....fighters. Most of them HAD to fight often because of money. When guys started getting paid a lot more (no hate from me), we started seeing less of them. It's a tale as old as time.

It's so annoying to see a guy face one low-level opponent after the next and only fight once per year...and still has the balls to tell fans to view them as active fighters who move the needle in the sport. I get what he's saying.

You are absolutely right about Canelo being able to take an easier fight but it should not be an $80 ppv.

He's not wrong though. The golden days for me, I watched fighters 3-4 times a year. Those are long gone. Now you're lucky to get 2 fights from some of these guys but why should they? They're being paid massive checks and can honestly sit out the entire year with 1 fight. Crazy to me.

What a life. It's like winning the lottery yearly and going on vacation for the year. Come back the next year, win it again, vacation again.
