Comments Thread For: De La Hoya On Garcia Trainer Switch: Things Happen For A Reason; Move Was For The Best

If anyone can relate to Ryan Garcia's decision to change head trainers once again, it's his own promoter. The recent news of Garcia entering training camp with world-class cornerman Joe Goossen after having spent more than three years under the guidance of Eddy Reynoso came as a surprise to many, and with mixed reviews. Among those who supported the move is Oscar de la Hoya

Very curious to see how Garcia will develop with Goossen. If he puts in the work and is willing to listen to Goossen, then he can definitely grow.

With garcia being an attention w h o r e I could see him thriving with Goosen. He didnt get all the attention with Reynoso he felt he deserved and to be fair I do feel like he is good enough to deserve a trainers undivided attention. As you said though the ball is in his court to work hard and listen to Goosen.

        Absolutely agree..

Reynoso didn’t care to see Ryan success unless he aligned in his way of thinking of being anti-Oscar..

        The entire arrangement was unhealthy..

Canelo loves criticizing Ryan and Oscar, but yet can’t take a lick of criticism himself, he acts like a scorned woman.. Even against Oscar who protected him numerous times, especially when he popped dirty.

I'm not sure people are ready for that level of honesty, maybe a little too honest for most.

If it is a legit move to avoid nonsense and get more attention in training then it is a good move. If it is because he wants superstar treatment and to be close to all the nonsense that he likes to entertain on the side then no.

Goosen is a good trainer and knows how to get into the ego of the fighters.

The only way changing trainers is a good thing is if the fighter picks the right trainer based on which styles of fighters that trainer has had success training.

If you want all out offense, and you have pop, you want Robert Garcia or Freddie Roach. But you need to have this style already.

Fighters like Amor Khan switching to Virgil Hunter is just dumb. You are not going from a defenseless deer to Willie Pep because you hired a defensive trainer.

And omg, Hatton the wrestler, hiring Floyd Mayweather lol.

You have to give the trainer something to work with based on what he does best. So if you have never been and defensive minded boxer, and your switching mid-career to a defensive trainer, you are not going really far. You work on your defense and establish those skills before even becoming pro. If you are offensive minded then work on making your offense better. Make your offense better than any defense your opponent has. Overwhelming your mind with crap that you are not even going to do in the ring during the fight, it’s going to hurt you. Strengthen what you already have.

Joe Goosen is not your Yes man trainer
Things will be dictated by him and only him or he walks
This can only bring good to Garcia as long as he sticks to the plan
One more thing , forget Reynoso , there’s no need for this public dispute
