  • Comments Thread For: Espinoza: Butaev-Stanionis, Lee-Ochoa On Showtime Before Spence-Ugas PPV 'An Experiment'

Showtime will air live boxing before a pay-per-view event on the network's main linear channel for the first time April 16. Stephen Espinoza, Showtime's president of sports and event programming, considers it an experiment. For at least one night, however, boxing fans that subscribe to that premium cable channel can watch two more bouts before the pay-per-view portion of the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard begins at 9 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

With as woke Showtime has become with their trash content I am surprised they are letting a Russian box. I personally don't have a problem with it, but you know some whiney clowns will cry about it here.

They for some reason stopped the SHO Extreme cards they used to put on before the main cards. While I agree 4-5 hours of boxing is not everyone, you should at least get the option to see all the fights on the cards. DAZN/ESPN+ allow you to watch the entire card or just about the entire card. It's not going to have great ratings but for the hardcore fans they would certainly enjoy it.

Yesterday, I saw Butaev-Stanionis and Lee-Ochoa listed on Ring Magazine's website as being on regular Showtime, separate from the PPV. When I looked to see if this was actually the case I couldn't find anything supporting that, so I figured it was an error. Apparently not. Gotta say, it's probably a ****** idea. Do people that don't subscribe to Showtime get to see these fights if they buy the PPV? If not, you're making a good PPV card into another bad one, one probably not worth purchasing.

Some of the best fights are the unknown fighters on the undercard that are finally getting some exposure. I agree a 5 hour show with 7 or 8 fights aren't for the casuals but I am the guy to spend a complete Saturday watching shows back to back if they are available. I prefer the unknown fighters that we really haven't seen yet. They put their heart and soul into it.

"In the 10-round opener of Showtime’s two-bout broadcast, hard-hitting junior welterweight contender Brandun Lee (24-0, 22 KOs), of La Quinta, California, will battle Brooklyn’s Zachary Ochoa (21-2, 7 KOs)."

            This just keeps getting better!

I think if you get the ppv you see the prelims. The ppv is on from like 7- 100am.

Whenever TR had a ppv and shows the prelims on espn, if I turn to the ppv channel the same fights are on. I believe it’s the same with UFC.

I think PBC is doing same here- using the Sho card to push the ppv.

Not only that, but sometimes top prospects fight on the untelevised portions of the card and it sucks we miss their fights......At least live. That's where DAZN/ESPN+ do a good job at of exposing everyone on their cards. Still not sure why SHO Extreme is not a thing anymore.

You can buy the PPV without having SHO.

Very few and I mean VERY few people buy cards because of the undercard. The ones buying this card will be purchasing it for Spence/Ugas. Stanionis/Butaev are largely unknown fighters.
