I'm not sure I see the likeness to be honest. Calzaghe was not so subtely derided by the American media for years, and even the ones that thought he was good in his 20s naturally assumed that years of injury and inactivity had ruined him.
I think most of the American media saw the fight as Lacy getting rid of a fading champion, who had held the belt hostage in Wales for a decade. I'm not sure there have been many fights in history where the media had to eat quite such a big piece of humble pie. Ali v Liston was definitely another.
I don't see the comparison and Plant is not on Calzaghes level. We'll find out about Benavidez, he looks a better fighter than Lacy to meComment
