    How good is Jean Pascal?

Anybody actually follow the guy? Would he school Cloud? What's his style?

He's WBC Light Heavyweight Champion now, lost to Carl Froch in Nottingham over the WBC Supermiddle Belt, but other than hearing him briefly on EPSN FNF, I don't really know much beyond what's listed on boxrec.com.

He looked like a tough man in the Froch fight, that's all I've seen from him though.

What's with the "lost in his hometown" bit about? lol

Froch did win that fight, no doubt about it and I really don't like Froch I think Pascal went in with the wrong gameplan.

By hometown, I mean Carl Froch's hometown in Nottingham.

It's not a dig at Froch's victory, merely an observation.

He still needs to prove that he can look good against someone other than slow, one-dimensional brawlers.

He looked good against Froch in the first half of their fight but we know that's pretty easy to do, at least for a while. Then he either gassed or got scared and stopped throwing punches the second half of the fight and lost on points to Froch. Let me repeat that - he LOST ON POINTS TO FROCH.

He looked good against Diaconu but Diaconu was unproven himself, having a picked up a vacant title in a controversial decision win over a rugged but heavily flawed Chris Henry. Diaconu was undefeated prior to the Pascal loss but his record was heavily padded. On top of everything, Diaconu looked **** against Pascal and fought a ****** fight, head-hunting the entire night against the quicker, sharper Pascal.

The other thing to keep in mind is that Pascal's chin is very questionable, having been stunned several times by Froch and Diaconu, and most notably wobbled by club fighter Omar Pittman. Pittman's not a brutal puncher by any means, he's just reasonably quick and timed Pascal with a good shot.

The only advantage I see Pascal having over Cloud is speed and a little finesse, but Cloud is tough, strong, and throws a lot of punches. I think he wears down Pascal and possibly stops him late.

Dawson has almost every advantage over Pascal at this point, and wins either a lopsided decision or stops him late.

Sure you aren't trying to say it was a hometown decision?

Positive. What's your opinion of the guy?

And thank you dstew for providing a decent analysis. Dawson would undoubtedly beat him in my opinion. I remember he and Miranda were going to fight but that match-up never came into fruition.

                  Pascal ain't any good.

                  He'd get beat by Woods.

He'd beat Jermain Taylor, put it that way. He'd knock Taylor out quicker than Froch IMO. Fantastic chin.
