  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum Says Josh Taylor is 'Content Fighting Twice a Year, Rather Than 3 or 4 Times'

Bob Arum doesn't expect Josh Taylor to break the modern-day mold of fighting more than twice a year. The head of Top Rank Inc. was recently asked if he has plans to ensure that Taylor, the undisputed champion in the 140-pound division and Arum's client, will maintain a more active fighting schedule than has been the case in the recent past.

Depends on the money is what it depends on, conditions with covid played its part but fighters do not fight as often as they used to not be with friends so much as boxing is paying more to fighters with a name and a title or a reputation then in the past. It is true in Boxing it is true in all sport. Good Bad..... who knows. There are more platforms for fighters to step up to, fans are willing to pay PPV dollars for fights that used to be on straight TV of some sort but now it is first about getting that APP-PPV money and then Solo-PPV that drives these fighters anymore.

Taylor probably takes too much punishment to fight more than twice a year. He also says he makes 140 easy and could stay there his whole career, but I bet he’ll find himself suddenly shot and with a glass chin if he stays there any longer. He needs to start acclimating to 147 now.

imo once you get to be a champion it has nothing to do with seeing family and friends and much more to do the risk reward ratio of getting paid exceptionally well for each fight so why risk your health and a loss when you can earn a million a year off of one fight - case in point being Andrade who will make a million plus for fighting an almost unknown fighter.

Also, there is much more awareness of the brain damage that boxers incur. Canelo is the exception in recent years but his mindset is probably he's on the gravy train and make as much money as he can while they are throwing silly money at him.

Oscar had some troubles outside the ring. I wonder if Arum is referring to having to payoff that girl from TJ that accused Oscar of raping her. Arum just made it go away and crazy that it never gets brought up like they bring up others past

The guy has always been untouchable, for some reason. All it takes to know De La Hoya's many obscure sides - well before the fishnets - is reading Tim Kawakami's book about him, Golden Boy: The Fame, Money, and Mystery of Oscar de La Hoya.
