Comments Thread For: Benavidez Wants Berlanga To 'Get Better' to Preserve Future Showdown

David Benavidez is rooting for divisional peer Edgar Berlanga to regain the momentum he once had in his career, if only to ensure that their super middleweight bout, someday down the road, will have maximum intrigue.

The 168 division is doggy poo poo caca. There are no "elite contenders".

When it’s two Americans, the whole “Mexico vs PR” just doesn’t have the pomp and circus. When it’s two too guys actually from Mexico and PR, can’t speak any English, and have two enthusiastic fan bases then it matters

Benavidez should shut up and stop with this “get better” bullshyte. He was willing to fight bums in Angulo, Ellis and Kyrone Davis. Yet when Berlanga is mentioned he tells him to get better? Sounds like a ducking excuse to me. Berlanga is better than those 3 and will knock the snot out of them.

I could see Angulo losing to Berlanga providing he cant land a big shot but Davis and Ellis both are solid in comparison to Berlanga's resume and wont allow Berlanga to land that 1 big shot. Those all would actually be really big step ups for Berlanga and interesting to see IMO

I think Corceres beats Davis , Angulo and maybe Ellis . Idk if you've watched Corceres vs Billy Joe but he was actually fighting an even fight until the late KO loss.

Puerto Ricans and "Nuyoricans" have a little internal beef, but it's not a big deal. Every Puerto Rican fighter wants that NY Spotlight, and every NY fighter wants that love from Puerto Rico!

Somewhat true, tho Berlanga is loved here in NJ/NY area and pulled in an impressive crowd down is Kissimmee, where there’s a huge PR presence.

If they both continue to win and they’re each able to get their hands on at least one title, fans will gravitate to this fight regardless of ethnicity and it’ll be a huge financial success. Either way, Benavides wipes the floor with Berlanga. The talent gap is too great to overcome for Edgar.

You obviously have no idea how boxing works. There’s a HUGE potential to make $25-$30 mil in a showdown down the road, IF they each continue to win and look impressive, hence him wanting Edgar to improve to preserve that potential payday. There’s no such potential with any of the fighters you’ve mentioned. They’re all journeymen used as gatekeepers to progress prospects such as Berlanga and Benavides.

Benavides isn’t “ducking” any fighter dropped by coceres lol.

I agree with Benavidez, but the irony in him calling out Canelo though, and then saying this
