Comments Thread For: Kell Brook-Amir Khan: Is Later Better Than Never?

By Cliff Rold - Whether the wait is ever really worth it is up for debate. It doesn't mean waiting is an absolute end of the world. This weekend, we will get the long desired UK showdown between former Jr. welterweight titlist and Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan (34-5, 21 KO) and former welterweight titlist Kell Brook (39-3, 27 KO). It was always one of those fights that made too much sense not to happen eventually.

Later is better than never but as always it might create more confusion and doesn't really answer questions.

People are acting as if Brook & Khan are coming out of retirement to fight.

In reality they are probably still the two best Welter-Weights in the UK, and top-10 best Welter-Weights in the world.

Forget titles, this is a great match up and real competitive rivalry 'That is what boxing is all about'.

Two men, settling their differences in the ring, and creating business.

I find it very dramatic all these people, being all smug and passive regarding the fight 'There is very elitist smug culture in certain areas of boxing these days'.

Notice the way NOBODY wants to admit that they are fans of any fighter, who is not world champion or a big prospect. What is all that about? Soon as somebody loses people distance themselves from fighters etc

I can only put it down to today's culture, some people get affected and are influenced.

The fight has gotten huge traction on the socials, so its all good.

Tbh, when could this fight have happened, Brook finally got to world level around 2014/15 Khan by that stage was looking for big money fights and ended up fighting Canelo. 2017/18/19 would all have been as similar as now, both guys past their best and beaten up.

So this is fine, anyway, picking Kell for the stoppage around 6-8 rounds.

Better late than never. If Oscar had rematched Tito in 2007, it would have been late but better than just having the 2000 fight.

This fight isn't top tier, but it's fine -- more credible than a lot of people are making out. It's a competitve matchup. In many ways it makes all kinds of sense: in recent fights, both have been found wanting at the highest echelon of their weight class. They now provide a bookend to their careers with a domestic grudge match.

Its a very good thing. It means nothing in the grand scheme but at the same time its very intriguing. Who will win? Will Amir go night night? Can the pillow fist of Khan break Brooks orbital bone? Will Brook lay down like he did against Crawford? It's fun stuff

Late? Both guys are 35. Prime vs Prime - Real talk. As Khan said, he is better now than he was at 25 after training with the great Crawford. Much better now than when he was wasting his time with the clueless Freddie Roach. And Brook is now not merely human, but a man with superpowered robot eyes. This is the best vs the best, so cough up the £20 for the PPV, get the beers in and enjoy the night. Nash out.

Headline today... "Amir Khan and Kell Brook press conference descends into an ugly farce as fighters trade ****phobic slurs and argue over an alleged racist comment by Brook about smashing Khan's 'poppadom chin"

Dear me, immature and pathetic, both of them... sick of this **** in the sport of boxing

Later is better than never. Even if it's late, Khan will be knocked out for talking nonsense.
