Comments Thread For: Kell Brook: Fans Gonna Get Extremely Exciting Fight, Fireworks From The Off

By Thomas Gerbasi - Even when their Saturday fight was made official last November, there was the opinion that after years of waiting, something would happen to keep Kell Brook and Amir Khan from throwing hands in Manchester. But here we are, days away from a fight many thought we'd never see. That "many" includes Brook.

The weight drain for Brook’s tilt against Crawford seemed to badly affect him. If this was at 154 I would heavily favour Brook. If it was at 147 I would favour Khan. I was 50/50 with the weight at 149 but just heard there is a silly rehydration clause so that may just tilt it towards Khan. I am rooting for Brook to absolutely flatten Khan though.

What! There’s a hydration clause?? What weight has khan demanded that kell can’t weigh more then? Hope Brook destroys khan in highlight reel fashion!!

Outside of those hoping that Khan gets smashed, is anyone excited about this fight? I just can’t get into it.

The rehydration clause is pure Khan phuckery... Very sneaky but Brook signed the contract so....

I don't think there is too much in the re-hydration clause. Brook apparently has been at 147 pounds since he was a teenager? Listen at the end of the day, it is up to fighters who decide to weight drain themselves to be the big man on fight night. If they start to struggle as their career's progress, it is their own fault really.

I think they should bring back 'Same day weigh in's, to eliminate fighters weight draining themselves'.

I like many people would pick Brook to win, if this fight was at 154 pounds. But anything below this, I start to favor Amir Khan.

Amir Khan is a 147 pound fighter, and has not obligation to fight at higher weights.

If Brook is to win this fight, it has to be early in the first 4-5 rounds. The longer the fight goes, the stronger Amir Khan will become.

If there is fireworks from both sides, Khan won't last 6 rounds. Khan needs to stay the hell away from a fire fight. His chin is just not good enough for that.

I like this post because it's very true. You have Middleweights draining down to 140-147. You have welterweights draining themselves to 130-135. All to have a size advantage and be successful pretty much by being a bully. The fighters that fight near their weight class and get the wins over bigger fighters are better in my eyes, even if they are beaten. If everyone fought at the same size, in the ring, i'm talking fight night weight, a lot of wins in history wouldn't have happened.

Day before weigh in's in modern times have created a illusion, I don't really rate super highly 'Fighters who move through the weight classes, then try and make out that they are doing something monumental'. They are most of the times, moving through the weight classes because they can no longer weight drain themselves and fight smaller fighters. I just find the landscape in all the lower weight classes in modern times to be very opportunistic.

I can remember David Haye, once said about Tony Bellew 'That he was fighting at 175 pounds, because he wanted to gain a advantage and be the big man'. Haye said this in response to somebody suggesting that him and Bellew have the same mentality. Haye also brought up how he did not care, if he was being out weighed by Heavyweights while Bellew was very vocal about 'Not wanting any part of the super-heavyweights'.

Alvarez is reality has always been a middle weight. It is his own fault he was beaten easily by Floyd Mayweather Junior 'Who was not only the more skillful fighter, but also had the better endurance' And that was Mayweather not even at his peak, Alvarez attempted to be the big man 'And it back fired'.

If same day weigh in's where re-introduced, it would not change the heavyweight division. But I honestly think it would make the competition more pure in the lower weight classes 'Fighters careers will most likely be prolonged, better condition, better training etc'.

Carl Froch was breaking personal training records, right up until near the end of his career. He documented all of his training in his training book. He was a fighter who was known to not really do a big weight cut, and sometimes even walked around close to super-middleweight. Floyd Mayweather Junior is another fighter who never weight drained himself, yes these fighters performances decrease but 'You do not see this distinct dramatic drop in performance, these fighters also seem to be wiser' Mayweather could of carried on, but he knew his attributes were not quite on point.

It must be purely for entertainment, day before weigh in's. Because for health and safety reasons, I don't think it is a good idea 'Fighters even to their detriment will always try to take advantage of it'.

The day before weigh in's were introduced in the early 1980's.

I'm rooting for Special K in this one. I certainly wish it would have happened sooner - and I 100% believe Khan was the reason it never happened before - but I'm looking forward to watching it. If he does well, I'd like to see Kell move back up to 154 and see how he fares.

Regarding the comments about same day weigh ins, I'm not a fan of the current format, but everybody is playing by the same rules. Some choose to drain down as much as they can and some choose to stay closer to their natural weight. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. I don't hear fighters or trainers complaining much about it, so I doubt we'll see a change back to the old days.

Rooting for Brook. Rehydration clause or whatever it is won't save Khan.
