Amir Khan may sue face book
Part of the deal when you enter the limelight is that you have to accept that some people are going to hate you. Not only that, but they might say some pretty mean and horrible things, especially on the Net. In fact, somethings might be down right indefensible.
It seems that British boxer and current WBA World Light-Welterweight champion, Amir Khan, may not have the thick skin necessary for life in the public eye. The boxer, and his promoter Frank Warren, are threatening legal action against Facebook over groups based around a hatred of him. The polarizing boxer has apparently inspired over 20 hate groups, which are filled with "defamatory and illegal content," according to Khan's lawyers.
Facebook's terms of service (and the company's actions in removing holocaust denying groups) make it clear that it will not tolerate what it deems as "hate speech." And while some comments by Khan-haters have racist overtones, can the act of disliking a sports figure really qualify as hateful?
Plenty of other celebrities, David Beckham and Lindsey Lohan for instance, are the subject of such anti-fan clubs on Facebook. Will such public figures join forces and "encourage" the social networking site to shut down such groups? Or will Facebook simply continue to "acknowledge" Khan's complaints until he quietly goes back to do what he does best -- beating up on mediocre boxers. [From: CNET and The Guardian]
