Comments Thread For: Keith Thurman On Repaired Left Hand: It Just Feels So Great To Not Be In Physical Pain

LAS VEGAS - Keith Thurman's surgically repaired left hand is one of the primary reasons he feels refreshed entering his first fight in 2 1/2 years. A hand specialist urged Thurman to have surgery on his left hand after his 12-round, majority-decision win over Josesito Lopez in January 2019 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. With the opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao and the accompanying payday awaiting him, Thurman tried physical therapy and endured the pain prior to and during his memorable WBA welterweight title fight with the legendary Filipino southpaw.

Get it done tomorrow night Keith then tell papa Al to send T Crawford a contract Monday morning so you can land that new left hand on the P4P #1…

I understand where Thurman is coming from, as I have experienced hand injuries while just sparring, no amateur exp or anything. Just some fun sparring. And that stuff HURTS. And it can go away momentarily but at any point, you can re-injure it. It never stays “fixed”. Even if you take off 2-3 years and come back thinking you’re 100%. You are not, and never will be. Only way to really fix it is to stop boxing altogether. Just look at Mayweather and Calzaghe for example, once they broke their hand, nothing ever fixed it and numbing them is pretty much just a band-aid:

With that said, Thurman can still probably outbox guys like Barrios like Mayweather and Calzaghe did. But unlike Mayweather and Calzaghe, he likely will struggle mightily at anywhere near the top level.

He will likely become a good B fighter.

Remember to bump this thread when he loses and makes excuses. He said he "feels so great to not be in physical pain.” we will see what the excuse will be

Hes 33 and been a B fighter. At one point like 6 years ago he was considered possibly the best at welter and needed to prove it but never did and time has past him by. He will be carefully matched if he wins this one and look to cash out on his remaining time boxing.

I like how Thurman talks and all hes pretty honest and upfront about things like the stuff about fighting Boots but..

I just don't rate him hes pretty tough, average puncher and skills bit weak to the body but overall just a B+ fighter I can't see him reaching the top again and I bet he looks like garbage vs Barrios after such a long layoff but even when he gets off the ring rust it won't make much difference

The hipocrisy in boxing fans is astounding. The same folks who liked porter and Garcia and kept them in good standing opinion wise wanna talk down about the dude that handled em both. Same folks who walked around being Danny Garcia fanboys. I’m not a Keith fan but that man deserves respect. He put his 0 up when y’all said he wouldn’t and he would fold. Also, beat both with an injured arm.

One would hope but Bud doesn’t even have a promoter right now. I have a bad feeling we might not see but for a while.

and depending on how good Keith looks, Al might save him for Errol if he beats Ugas

Very good post. Wilder seems to be cursed with the same hand issues. But then again, the man hits that hard, no bones are made for such contact.

A case of “glass hands” is very real. My good mates Dad was always fighting at football in 80’s, his hands are brittle today.
