“Fighting Words” – Kessler, Ward and The Super Six

by David P. Greisman - Mikkel Kessler – come on down!

Andre Ward – come on down!

You’re the next contestants in the Showtime Super Six Showcase Showdown!

And now for a break from this commercial…

This weekend’s fights on Showtime were like a movie trailer before a feature presentation, a sampler platter before an entrée, a foot in the water before a headfirst dive.

Like the Price is Right, the show was over within an hour.

Kessler, defending his super-middleweight world title against mandatory challenger Gusmyr Perdomo, took the victory with a fourth-round technical knockout. Andre Ward, against designated opponent Shelby Pudwill, ended the night via stoppage in the third round.

It was like so many past boxing infomercials. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The “Super Six” super middleweight tournament is something the Sweet Science rarely sees – a series of fights between several of the top titlists, contenders and prospects in a single division, eventually producing a winner that should be considered the true No. 1 in his weight class. [details]

Tapia has to do a year in the pen for leaving state lines and that has got to put him in a negative frame of mind.

This is good, but my favorites from David is when he is reporting on an occured event, rather then a future event.
