Comments Thread For: Benavidez: I'm Not Gonna Lie, I Was a David Lemieux Fan

David Benavidez Jr. is an aggressive, come-forward fighter, so it should be no surprise that he has holds his likely next opponent, veteran Canadian knockout artist David Lemieux, in high regard.

Thats it David Benavidez you don't have to lie about it, David Lemieux is one of my favorite fighters to watch.
You on the other hand are a better fighter, and more entertaining thats why you should win this fight.
I do believe that you'll win another title, but it's your lack of discipline that has hurt your career, not a lack of fighting ability.

I've been a fan of Lemieux since I saw him destroy Fernando Guerrero. And we all know he is far from a perfect boxer (how do you not know/learn how to cut off the ring, especially when you're facing BJS?), but he's generally entertaining to watch. I've watched all of his fights since the Guerrero bout, as well as older fights that are available, including losses to Rubio and Alcine. Dude used to have an iron chin. Remember when he got hit with a left hook to the body by GGG and took a knee but then got blasted with a straight right to the jaw while he was down? That would've wrecked most people. But, the head shot didn't seem to faze him. Unfortunately, that punch resistance seems to be gone, having gotten dropped by Max Bursak 3 times in 2019 and then fighting two nobodies since.

So, while this should be an entertaining scrap, I see the younger, longer, fitter, better-skilled Benavidez (who I like as well) coming away with the W, probably by KO. But, a devastating puncher like Lemieux has a chance.

Didn’t Lemieux put Curtis Steven’s in a stretcher? They had to carry Steven’s out.

Yep. That was a devastating knockout. It was voted knockout of the year by Boxingscene: https://www.boxingscene.com/boxingsc...tevens--123833
