But their trying to guide his career at the correct speed, and doing a good job. There's no shame in admitting your fighter is still a bit behind the others. Especially given a lesser amateur background. The reporting needs to be better and get the quotes right. Hooker is a good opponent at this stage. Benn right now, is roughly where Ortiz was before he fought Hooker, and it was considered a good fight for him. This is a good match up if it can be made.
Yes I agree with your perspective but, if the hooker fight happens, after that it's got to be a move up and a fight againsta genuine top 10 welter.

I'd like to see that but honestly if you look in boxrec at who the other top welterweights fought at the same point in (ignoring Vergil) he's ahead of the curve with little or no amateur background.

I think he'd get found out certainly against a top 5 guy maybe even a genuine top 10 now but his rate of improvement is exceptional. Why throw him to the wolves no when most of the others weren't in the same position?

Much better choice than 38 year old "Ghost" Guererro! Make It Happen Eddie!

If Montana Love struggles to make 140 again, just move him up, and let him fight Benn! That would be a good fight for Benn to come to the U.S.!

I can't see that happening, but I'd look forward to that fight.

Montana Love Scores Three Knockdowns, Wipes Out Carlos Diaz in Three
                December 4, 2021

“2022 is going to be a very big year,” vows Love. This was just a wake-up, we woke the world up this year. Next year, me and Eddie are taking over the 140-pound division.”

Of course, the only question is whether he can make 140 pounds. Love had to revise the fight contract to a 144-pound limit as he miscalculated his weight cut, though insists that it won’t be an issue as he prepares for a title run.

“Absolutely,” promised Love. “It’s just a little hiccup, a learning lesson. We locked in.”

LAS VEGAS – Montana Love put an exclamation point on a year to remember. The unbeaten Cleveland native enjoyed a successful first fight under the Matchroom Boxing banner, stopping Guadalajara’s Carlos Diaz inside of three rounds Saturday evening at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Love scored three knockdowns in round two and had Diaz pinned in a corner, leaving referee Raul Caiz Jr. to stop the contest at 0:22 of round three.

Yeah. I think personally he'll make weight next time. I think he got sloppy. Time will tell.

Hopefully. I suppose it depends on how he performs. Hooker is handy for sure. He definitely tested both Ortiz and Ramirez. I think after his next fight Hearn will still chase Broner. Its a big seller and profile raise. But I'm with you, I want to see a top 10 guy.

Despite that, Hooker is still a very good fighter and dangerous for for Benn. Definitely better than Guerrero or Broner IMO. It's not a bad matchup and a step in class from Granados and Algieri. I don't particularly Benn but I think they are developing him and matchmaking him well.
Age wise I take your point, but I guess it depends on his desire. Ultimately he's not gonna be the best in either division. He's very good, but won't ever be great. He's in an awkward position of being too big for 140, but not strong enough for big 147 pounders. Benns not a big 147 though, so I think Hooker is an excellent test at this point in my opinion. You make good points pal.
