Comments Thread For: Hrgovic's Promoter Feels IBF Rankings Becoming a Mockery With Boxers Rejecting Eliminator

Promoter Kalle Sauerland, who represents heavyweight contender Filip Hrgovic, wants the IBF to throw down the hammer at their top contenders - because top rated fighters are refusing to take part in a final world title eliminator with Hrgovic.

"All we can do is lobby the IBF to continue through the rankings as soon as possible or make Filip a direct mandatory. That is something we are pushing. The IBF need to act because it makes a mockery of their rankings. People should not be ranked if they have no intention of boxing for the title."

Well said! Make him the direct mandatory, and do the same for Jaron "Boots" Ennis!

He is high risk low reward for established fighters or one that wants to make a name for themselves. There is no guarantee when the winner of the eliminator will get their shot so I also can see the problem in fighting for the Mando position for established fighters.

Although I do suspect that there are financial aspects to their difficulty in finding an opponent for the eliminator, an obvious solution is, as you highlight, just make him the mandatory!

          “Becoming” a mockery?

IBF rankings already are a mockery just like the three stooges (WBC, WBO, WBA). Together with the IBF they are the 4 Horse-sh/ts.

IBF had Charles Martin ranked #2.

Hrgovic being ranked in the top 3 at HW IBF is a mockery itself.

A guy with 14 fights and 0 good wins over good contenders, can fight for a championship. That’s just absurd. But IBF and the other 3 make that a reality.

Ring, Boxingscene, ESPN and TBRB are the only boxing publications that attempt to make rankings that most accurately reflect who really is the best.

When you have a mediocre fighter like Charles Martin at #2, or Anvil Yildirim somehow “earning” his way to #1 at WBC, that should tell you everything you need to know about these organizational rankings. They are pure crap and when I see fans actually using those rankings for serious debates, a little piece of my love for boxing goes away.

IBF literally only gets praise from fans because they aren’t as bad and corrupt as the other 3. But they are still crap and have decades of ruining the sport with their ****** mando’s between established, good contenders and dudes that even a lot of hardcore fans never knew about.

Looks like I was wrong about Parker, I was sure he’d accept the fight. I knew Ortiz would bottle it.

I don’t understand why people would turn down this fight, Hrgovic is clearly a big puncher but so far against unproven guys. IBF is one of the few organisations that a actually enforces their mandatories and it hasn’t been called for over a year now so it must be due soon

Same situation for Boots! However, if they can't get fights, then make them the direct mandatory! I also feel that when fighters decide not to fight the champion, or participate in an eliminator, then they should drop in the rankings, especially those with #1 rankings!

Not enough incentive to fight an eliminator for a 2024 mandatory spot. The IBF should continue through the top 15 till someone takes it.
