Is it possible that vindication for Cotto is not possible?

There is plenty of interest for obvious reason about a Cotto/Margarito rematch possibly this summer. This thread is dedicated to the possibility that vindication for the brutal loss Cotto had suffered at the hands of Margarito may be non-existent. A question that goes through my mind is; what if Margarito in a tune up after he is re- licensed is obviously damaged goods? I envision a potential scenario where against someone he should have been favored to easily beat he struggles and is kd a few times and edges his way to a razor victory or a fight where he is ko’d even. Then lets say after this, the rematch happens and Cotto completely destroys a Margarito who’s best days where quite clearly behind him. Is this vindication for the past devastating defeat? I say no, but that doesn’t really matter and I am more interested in what vindicates Cotto not so much in fan’s minds but Cotto’s mind.
I have actually been over the issue in other threads I have made about what kind of a win is a vindicating win for Cotto; a ud,sd, ko, tko and consensus on the forum was that a win is a win even over a guy who beat you to a bloody pulp. I agree a win is a win but I am not talking about evening the score on some record or Cotto’s career even so much. I am interested in what lays the demon to rest in Cotto’s mind and could perhaps bring him back mentally to the place he was or even better perhaps after facing a fear and doubt he no doubt has. This restoration of his warrior spirit, which I and many others believe is damaged after what he went through with Margarito being forced to essentially give in and look to his corner for help, may be impossible. This impossibility of future vindication is in no way as a result of Cotto’s action but Mosely’s rather. A beating like that no doubt will have an adverse effect on Margarito and his future performances. I seriously doubt Cotto as a warrior and a competitor would be satisfied with beating a lesser version of the man he faced in July of 08 regardless of if his fans are satisfied. For Cotto I think validation of his skills and abilities as one of the best in the world don’t rest on just any win against any version of Margarito but a domination of the best version of him possible. Unfortunately may be impossible, as the best version of Margarito may be in the past in the ring during that night in July of 08, but only time will tell and until then Cotto’s dreams I believe will be haunted with an image similar to this one

This is all just speculation, not hate, nutthuggery, or talk about theoretical plaster. Keep in mind this is merely neutral analysis, discuss or comment.

I believe that if Cotto survived the brutal beating and is still climbing the ladder to vindication, the beating had only enough after effect to maybe, and I say maybe make him a little gunshy. nothing more, because the fact that he'd climb into the ring with a guy like Joshua Clottey, whom many boxers still duck to this day, proves that he's getting over it. Margarito will do the same, he will rise above whatever demons haunt his sleep (cheating, or being unjustly accused of doing so, or even his first knockout, which just happened to be a bad one), and get back to his game plan. I will say this though, if he did cheat, shame on him and part of that karma that always comes back to bite people on the ass, is that he will have no mental, or physical advantages over his opponent, and will be seriously kTFO agai. If he didnt cheat, then kudos to him and my best wishes that he get to that place where redemption is complete and true happiness is his reward.
