Earlier in his career he looked good against B-C level comp, he stepped up to face mayweather and got schooled. He looked great against angulo and everyone said he improved off the mayweather fight but he went right back to looking lost vs Lara. He then went on a selective run of opposition and the only decent name he faced was an old small Cotto. During that time he avoided ggg until he felt it was safe and needed judges help to avoid a loss in 2 fights. Went to a weak champion in fielding and stepped up again vs Jacobs and looked poor. He then picked on an old washed up and compromised Kovalev while leaving two good fights in the table at mw vs charlo and Andrade. Once Benavidez got stripped he petitioned for the vacant title, a belt he expressed 0 interest in getting when Benavidez had it and targeted one of the weakest divisions in boxing. Now he found himself another weak champion that he can take a belt from. So to summarize, his approach now is to find the weakest champion available, not the best challenge available.
But I don't see any stellar champions jumping up 2 weight divisions to fight weak champions. I've seens good champions jump up to fight legit champs and that's normally a bad idea (Brook, Khan, Mikey Garcia) .
Whats to stop Spence or Bud jumping up to fight Munguia when he was champ or Murata at MW? Whats to stop Jermall stepping up to fight BJS when he was champ or Joe Smith now? Whats to stop Josh Taylor jumping up to LMW? Whats to stop Inoue jumping up to fight at 126 or Oscar Valdez jumping up to fight Kambosos?Boxing fan1981 likes this.

Only way that happens is if titles are vacated by current champions and he gets to fight a scrub for the vacant title.

1. some of the guys you’ve mentioned have moved through multiple divisions.
2. Not everybody has the ability to make whatever fights they want the way Canelo does. Boxing politics is an issue for most but doesn’t apply to Canelo the same way as the “cash cow”
3. The primary point I’m making is that I’m not as impressed with moving through divisions as I am with guys facing the best in whatever division they’re in. I think it would’ve been more challenging for Canelo to get a clear win over ggg at mw and try to unify there with charlo and Andrade than going to 168. At 168, I think Benavidez was the best challenge and like I said, canelo only chased those titles once Benavidez was stripped and now is leaving the division to face a complete unknown. Canelo stopped at 175 and left without facing the other 2 legot challenges.
4. To clarify, I’m not defending anyone not fighting the best in their division. So this isn’t just for canelo but there’s no reason why Crawford vs Spence hasn’t happened and ggg, charlo and Andrade have yet to face one another or why bivol and beterbiev shouldn’t fight next. But again, Canelo has the power to make the fights he wants, that’s not the case with these other guys due to their promotional affiliations.

Either Sanchez is punch drunk or he secretly despises carnelo and wants to see him knocked out by a heavyweight lol
