Why do fans love fighters with undefeated records and no notable wins?

Hardcore boxing fans seem to support fighters with undefeated records, but no notable wins, over fighters with actual experience at the top level.

    Why is this?

It also appears that as soon this undefeated fighter with a thin resume, steps up and either looks mediocre or loses, the big fan support he had appears to dwindle.

In the last few years, you would think Haney, Andrade and Benavidez were killers with the best and most proven track record at the top level. But a look at their resume’s at the height of their hype, shows they had nothing there.

Now Haney, after looking like a p/ssy vs an old, past prime Linares, has had his hype almost muted entirely.

Benavidez should have a loss on his record vs an unknown fighter Gavril. But no worries, he is still hyped up as the most avoided fighter at 168. Supposedly being avoided by Middleweight Charlo and Canelo Alvarez.

Then of course, the king of all the ducked fighters with sh/t resumes, Demetrius Andrade. This guy can’t get a fight, but has himself already ducked multiple top fighters like Charlo and Lara.

10 years from now, at least one of these fighters will be completely forgotten about or exposed as not being as good as their “fanbase” think.

I think the fan base gets excited over the 0. Unbeaten, the possibilities of where the fighters career is headed are endless when you have an 0. Fans latch onto that.

When a fighter has multiple losses, the fan base starts seeing them as second rate, they can’t be bothered to associate themselves with such losers.

I think your right but I think what they are forgetting is sometimes fighters actually get better after losing.

Just look at manny's career. I rather see someone fail and fail then finally have their breakthrough moment.

Greatness isn't achieved by a undefeated record but by facing Great challenges and overcoming them.

In Haney and Andrade’s cases, they are being avoided by the other top guys in the division.

Actions speak louder than words. While you make a fair point they haven’t beaten anyone, the fact the top guys refuse to fight them tells me they are very good and have a real chance to upset them.

let’s be real- fights aren’t made by fighters or promoters are much as they are matchmakers. So a guy can flap his gums all day- as real fans we know ( or at least should) that matchmakers for top guys aren’t going to put them in with guys who have a legit shot to beat them and risk long term money for the promoter.

So when I see Loma drop a belt and Arum do what he did to avoid Haney or all of the top MW’s avoid Andrade like they have, I find that to be valid indicator of their ability and talent.

As such I get a little more excited about them as fighters because I’m hopeful they take advantage of the one shot they get down the road.

            Good point.

Gabe Rosado too. An extremely deceptive record. Even in his last fight vs Munguia. The scorecards don’t tell the competitiveness of the fight.

Glen Johnson was better after Hopkins took his 0.

Daniel Jacobs reinvented himself after brutally getting KO’ed by Pirog.

Dereck Chisora is a better fighter today than when he fought David Haye.

Hardcore boxing fans are some of the most flip flopping fans of any sport. Do not mention them as if they are so superior to casual fans. They are not. Some of the worst fans in the world are “hardcore” boxing fans. They can’t be consistent on anything other than being consistently bias.

Not sure why we're talking about Haney, Andrade, Benavidez when they're not that popular. Tank Davis, one of boxing's biggest superstars who stars on many ppvs, is a better example of this. Ryan Garcia is another one with a massive massive fanbase.

Not fair to mention Haney when the fans were cheering for Diaz and booing Haney in Haney's hometown.
