  • Predictions for 2022.

Can be anything you want, let me know how you think 2022 in the crazy world of boxing plays out.

    Here’s my 5 predictions for 2022:

First one is a bit of a pessimistic one, I don’t think Crawford vs Spence happens. I see Spence facing Thurman after Ugas.

Golovkin vs Eubank Jr happens in the UK on PPV 6 years after it was originally scheduled.

Kambosos faces Lomachenko in a big stadium fight in Australia.

Canelo vs Beterbiev happens in September 2022.

Anthony Joshua retires. After a second loss to Usyk, I think he cashes his chips and walks away from the table.

Canelo has another great year, Beterbiev in the fall.

    Kambosos vs Loma in Australia.

Crawford continues to fight no one after Porter, but stays P4P #2

Thurman fights no one interesting in 2022

Tank fights no one interesting in 2022, turns 28 years old, but still called too green by Floyd and Nostril Ellerbe.

Fury fights no one interesting until the fall of 2022

Charlo fights more bums in 2022, keeps saying Canelo ducking him

Benavidez keeps fighting bums in 2022, keeps saying Canelo is ducking him

Andrade keeps fighting bums in 2022, keeps saying Canelo is ducking him

GGG keeps fighting bums after Murata in 2022

Zurdo and Bivol meet in May of 2022

Chavez jr loses on points to Jake Paul in 2022

Floyd fights an exhibition, dumbasses tune in to watch an old man talk ****, then get disappointed to see a boring points victory.

Haney beats Kambosis at LW. Loma, Tank and Ryan continue to avoid him.

      Teo upsets Taylor at JWW.

      Inoue unifies the division

Canelo fights Charlo and Joe Smith

Usyk defeats AJ then Fury defeats Usyk by UD

Spence defeats Ugas and goes to 154.

      Crawford destroys Thurman.

Shakur Stevenson murks Valdez but then gets upset by Navarette.

Assuming that a fight between Kambosos and Haney is secured AND that Kambosos wins, he might sign a contract for a fight with Lomachenko before the end of the year.

Jaron Ennis fights a top 10 ranked opponent to prove he’s ready for a title shot; as much as I want it to be Virgil Ortiz Jr., that opponent probably won’t be him. Maybe it’s Conor Benn or Butaev, basically anyone in the top 10 that’s ranked below Ortiz.

Naoya Inoue either decides to defend his title against Guillermo Rigondeaux or fight a unification bout against John Riel Casimero.

Regardless of how the fight against Makabu goes, Canelo announces he won’t have anymore fights at Cruiserweight and decides to step back down to begin defending his undisputed Super Middleweight crown. To make sure that there’s no negative physical effects from returning from Cruserweight back down to Super Middleweight (think RJJ’s poor condition when he returned from Heavy back down to Light Heavy too quickly), the earliest they will schedule his first title defense is December. More likely it will be January of 2023, but that’s looking too far ahead. It’ll probably be against a nobody and after beating him easily he’ll announce he wants to fight David Lemiux next.

Speaking optimistically GGG and Jermall Charlo have a title unification bout against each other. Though, it’s more likely they have it against the other title holders, Andrade and Murata.

Tyson Fury has a title fight against Andy Ruiz late in the year.

Whether AJ or Usyk win the rematch, neither will probably even try to make a unification with Fury happen before the end of the year. The winner will probably pick the aging Luis Ortiz or some D-list boxer who isn’t even in the top 15 or 20.

Wilder takes the whole year off before announcing a comeback fight against some rando scheduled in 2023.

Optimistically, Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano have a unification bout.

Juan Francisco Estrada goes up to bantamweight for a title fight against Donaire or Casimero.

Ryan Garcia has a fight against Jorge Linares. If Linares loses, then he would announce his retirement.

          1. Spence vs Crawford Undisputed Showdown takes place in the summer or fall time.

          2. Four divisions have undisputed showdowns (LW/WW/LMW/HW).

          3. Wilder vs Ruiz takes place around May or June.

          4. Benavidez fights either Charlo or Plant.

          5. Chocolatio avenges two losses to former foes (Estrada/SSR).

          6. Tank vs Kingry happens late in the year.

          7. Canelo wins a LHW title for the second time.

          8. Fulton vs Roman is FOTY.

          9. Inoue vs Donaire II happens and Donaire gets KTFO this time around.

          10. Shakur vs Valdez unification bout takes place late in the year.

          11. Benn gets upset by a shopworn veteran seen as an easy touch.

            Good predictions. I would add:

Jermell beats Castano in the rematch
            Plant fights Benavidez
Choco loses decisively in the rubber match
Ryan most likely puts Isaac Cruz to sleep, which sparks up everybody's interest for a Tank fight more than ever, but Ryan or Tank prevent it from happening.

I am going to start at the bottom and work up:

The great super flyweights will continue to be the only boxers in the sport with balls and all fight each other again, SSR, Gonzalez, Estrada, Cuadras

Inoue will struggle to find that opponent that really boosts his resume but will win more belts

Valdez will duck the **** out of Stevenson and Stevenson won't get any good fights

Tank will continue to not fight top 5 boxers

Everyone at 135 will duck Haney

Crawford will destroy Taylor and Spence will continue to duck him. If Ortiz wants that smoke he will get murdered too.

Jermell Charlo wins the Castano rematch decisively

Everyone at 160 keeps ducking the 160lb king, Demetrius Andrade

Canelo will stay at 168 and fight Jermall Charlo realizing that the big dogs at 175 are too big a risk

Bivol will dominate Gilbert Ramirez at 175, but the undisputed fight with Beterbiev and Smith wont happen

Usyk will beat AJ in the rematch. Fury will have mental problems, drug problems or price himself out of the undisputed fight which all not happen.

Here’s another prediction I’d like to make for 2022: Ring magazine awards Fight of the Year to a Strawweight or Cruiserweight fight for the first time ever.

Love number 5 and think it is very possible.

3 and 11 I could definitely see too.
