Let’s talk Richards vs Gongora - aftermath

I don’t know how to assess this fight. Góngora is one bad dude, but Richards was able to tame this guy with a great jab and I was impressed. Noticeable difference was Lerrone’s size or wing span compared to Góngora. Richards looks to be the same as Plant but slightly more muscular or heftier. Probably hydrates to 185lbs on fight night. With all that being said, I don’t know if these physical attributes affected Gongora or Carlos was on his off night.

Hearn said Gongora came to the UK just a day before the fight because of VISA issues and the fight almost got cancelled. Usually a trip to the UK requires 1-2 weeks to adjust to the time difference since for some the jet lag would have obvious and drastic effects on performance. So TO ME, honestly, Gongora looked completely off. Anybody else noticed this? He just looked sloppy. No I’m the other hand Richards looked spectacular too. I’m just not sure how to gauge this fight. If everything were equal without such circumstances then I’d say Richards has a nice future at 168 atm.

who should Lerrone fight next? I wouldn’t mind him fighting Dirrell

    Have to watch it again.
But yes, Gongora came to UK only 2-3 days before the fight, so I'm sure it affected him. Just bc of that he should get a rematch. He's defo more appealing to watch than Richards.
Also, too many fighters on Hearns undercards, mostly opponents to his guys, who are there on short notice. Not nice to watch.

I’m more than sure Hearn said Gongora arrived the night before. Eddie was having an interview on the DAZN broadcast either pre or post fight, and I was very surprised that he disclosed that. A day before!!! That’s insane. At least Carlos got that pay nonetheless. I think Matchroom j just couldn’t do anything to expedite Góngora’s Visa. I remember this happened to Rigo when he was to fight ****ens and had to be rescheduled, but Rigo was to have entered a couple days before that fight as well… lol. Not sure if the UK Promoters trying to be wise to give an edge to Their domestic fighters. Even doe Gongora is Matchroom, Eddie can do more things (sales) with Lerrone… it’s a funny BIDNESS…

I'd like to see more of both guys. Richards is now a top ten super middleweight.

I want to agree. He's definitely got quick hands, but more importantly, he's strong, big, and has a great jab. HOWEVER, Gongora had arrived in the UK a day before the fight. This is a horrible circumstance considering that I had never seen Gongora that sloppy. Gongora is WAY MORE sharp in his fights than that one.

This probably explains why Gongora looked off.

But I didn't know Richards could box that well, either.
