Comments Thread For: Conor Benn Says Ugas Was Preferred Choice For Next Fight; Hopes for Broner In March, April

In an ideal world, Conor Benn would already be looking at his first attempt at winning a world title. On the heels of his lurid stoppage over veteran Chris Algieri, the hard-hitting British upstart recently expressed how would have loved nothing more than a chance to swap punches with WBA welterweight titleholder Yordenis Ugas.

Im a fan of Benn and aint against the route Hearn is taking him through, but this from Benn is outright b.s.
i think more then likely will be Guerrero and then the winner of khan/Brook and maybe a top 10 w.w back end of 2022.

I would say to my team, listen I’ve defended by WBA [intercontinental] title six times now let’s get onto Gilberto [Mendoza] at the WBA and get the fight made.

^ When Dave Diamante took a long pause to state Conor Benn's phony title '' And still the WBA.....Continental-Welterweight Champion, Conor...''

Who needs the WBA 'Regular' title?! What's a final eliminator?! Vergil, Boots WHO?! Where is Amir Khan?! Why is Robert Guerrero ducking Conor Benn?!

Dominating prime Algieri, Granados and Samuel Vargas in the same year is a great accomplishment. Now on to 4 weight champion Adrien Broner. Ugas he's coming for youuuuuu!!!!

I have replied to several of his posts and have always supported him..but this is when he[they] cross the line and I have to troll them.
            1. We know Ugas was not preferred next
            2. Why?
            3. Because any manager, promoter, coach doesn't call the exact bottom of the barrel out in Broner then the top..and imo Ugas is the second best WW behind TCs bum a.s.s. (talent wise best, resume makes smh)..
            4. To team Benn, be humble he's a project, like Malik Willis will be..he needs the right opps as he goes up, in about 5 fights, 2 years he'll at least compete at the top level.

Nailed. That's what he is. He became a prospect because of his name not because he had a stellar amateur career. He could have been moved like Eubank Jr. and in that case he would already have losses on his resume just like Junior.

Sometimes with a 'project' they hype gets ahead of the fighter, or the fighter looks great and seems further along than he really is. That's where we are now with Benn. So the matchmaker is in a difficult phase - they need to keep the hype going but not put the fighter at too much risk of a loss. 60-40 odds in the 'project's' favour are the most they want to contemplate and even that is more risk than they are really comfortable with.

Broner probably fits into that 60-40 range. Broner is a 40 to Benn's 60. Avanesyan on the other hand is a 60 to Benn's 40. Screw that for a game of soldiers (see what I did there?). So no way Benn is fighting Avanesyan and heaven forbid Vergil or Ennis. If he gets and beats Broner look for fights with one of the Garcia's and maybe Thurman if he looks faded against Barrios.

Even in the time of Hearns and Sugar Ray there must have been welterweight contemporaries of theirs hoping for a title shot - any dreams they had of being legit champs were just that. Dreams. And so it is with Benn.

This type of talk from Benn runs counter to reality. He's not anywhere ready to face the likes of an Ugas. He's not ready for am Avenesyan either. He may not know it but his team knows it. It's why he's on a tour of the seniors league of past contenders and champions.
