Comments Thread For: Arum Feels Canelo Would Aim For Joe Smith First, Then Artur Beterbiev

nobody would be blood drained like Golovkin before the Canelo fight when VADA officers where at Big Bear every day and they will fight at whatever ****ing weight they want without any clauses, in addition they would have a propre camp of 3-4 months (not 3-4 weeks) to get in shape

Sounds like the perfect plan for Bob Arum. His weakest champion gets the fight first since he could easily lose soon. Then his harder to beat fighter gets the next shot. Bob gets back to back huge paydays, perfect. I doubt it goes down that way. It seems Eddie Reynosa is guiding the fight selection and he has said about Joe jr. at allComment

Joe Smith would be an easy fight for Canelo. He's a pretty basic light heavy. He has powa but isn't all that technical. I can see Canelo out boxing him.
Artur has a crazy will to win as seen in his last fight and power that, as long as he can land will have lasting effects. Although Artur is looking good still, he is getting older. I think it is a better match for Canelo if he can wait out Artur just a bit longer. Get him when he's more crippled or way over the hill. It'll look more impressive to stop this undefeated KO artist. The casuals won't know the difference. His legendary status rises.Last edited by ELPacman; 12-29-2021, 01:51 PM.Comment

But like you said, it's the haters who will say this, now, don't get me wrong, Smith Jr is the easiest of the champs at 175 and I consider him as a lesser risk than Benavidez or Charlo, but it's not a bad fight at all.
Let's see after hearing Reynoso's interview yesterday I don't effin know what's next for Canelo in 2022, they seriously considering Kamaru Usman for a future fight.Comment

I agree with you on this, because I don't think any of these elite fighters are physically afraid of other guys. It's just not in their DNA. Both Canelo and GGG are preternaturally tough men, almost impervious to being knocked out. They don't cut easily. And both are pretty difficult to hit clean. On top of that, you don't reach their level in combat sport if you're subject to being physically scared.
What worries Canelo is the cash value of his brand. GGG is one of a handful of guys that can legitimately threaten it. As I said in my original post, I think GGG has aged enough that Canelo might be able to win the contest where everyone would (finally) agree that he'd won it fair and square. But there's always the chance that GGG will watch his game film with Derevyanchenko, recognize his own hesitancy about throwing punches, and correct for that. If he did, if he went back to his former relentless, high-pressure stalk-and-smash, a lot of people would say he won, just like a majority did after GGG-1.
So, I agree with you that Canelo the Boxer is 100% ready to rumble. Tough man. Superb athlete. Sharp. Definitely not scared. But Canelo the Banker doesn't like the risk that GGG poses to his brand. Therefore, it's a fight I don't expect to see until GGG is past 40, and maybe not even then.Comment

Much smarter to face Canelo for big money, rather than getting battered by Beterbiev for small change.Comment

However, I disagree with you on both what canelos perceptions of golovkin are and what risk he feels golovkin poses although, to be fair, we are both just hypothesising!Last edited by tokon; 12-29-2021, 10:37 PM.Comment
