  • Comments Thread For: Roy Jones Believes 'Uysk Beats Canelo Easy', But Cautions Moving Back Down To Cruiserweight

At least one person thinks Oleksandr Usyk would be severely misguided to go back down to cruiserweight for a fight with Canelo Alvarez. Boxing icon Roy Jones Jr. was recently asked about Usyk's supposed interest

It literally makes no sense for Usyk to go back to cruiserweight even for a Canelo fight. He is in the best possible position right now for huge money fights and bigger legacy fights.

Would be a lose-lose situation for Usyk. He's so much bigger he'd never get credit for beating Canelo. And if he were to lose somehow...

Not even money would be a good reason to go down in weight. Usyk as unified HW champion can make as much money as he wants.

There should not even be a conversation about Canelo fighting Usyk. Apart from Canelo getting knocked out in the 1st round if they fight, Canelo has shown time and time again that he takes the path of least resistance. The one person he fought who he gets credit for is Golovkin but even then he delayed that fight until G started showing some vulnerabilities. And imo he lost both fights lol.

Roy Jones moved up to Heavyweight and ruined his body coming back down in weight to fight Tarver. Did not look as fast or as strong at all. He is saying Usyk should fight other heavyweights since he got the belts but how come he didnt fight his mandatory David Tua?

Usyk is a better boxer than Canelo and is twice the size. Easy work.

All is this talk about a Canelo vs Usyk fight is ******-talk. Who thinks this shyyt up? It does seem to be a back-handed compliment to Canelo to even talk about him fighting a guy who is 8 inches taller, 45 lbs heavier, with an 8-inch reach advantage and to top it off one of the most skilled heavyweights of the last 25 years. Get a life folks!

If Roy had stayed @ HW or even CW after Ruiz, his early 00s would have been very different.

Usyk already conquered that division, really nothing to prove going back down. Of course he beats Canelo he is not a Cruiser and is going there fo what he hopes is an easy path to another belt. I like Canelo but that is all this move is about.

Roy Jones is correct and that is why it will never happen. It’s a long way from Makubu to Usyk. Renoso would never entertain this for a nanosecond. If Makabu fails to materialize, I don’t think Canelo fights any other cruisers let alone the GOAT.
