Type their name into google trends and it will give you an up and down chart of how searches and about them have increased and declined for the last few years. not a perfect way of determining popularity of course, but a pretty good way to judge name value.

Kelly Pavlik's trends reveal this for example

Now im sure his fans(and im one of them) dont like him any less, but it shows you how much his career has flat lined due to inactivity and poor promotion.
