Comments Thread For: Kazuto Ioka Salvages New Year's Eve Show In Tokyo, Will Now Face Ryoji ***unaga

Kazuto Ioka has made the best out of an undesirable situation to salvage a decade-long tradition. The four-division and reigning WBO junior bantamweight titlist will move forward with a New Year's Eve headliner, though no longer in a title unification bout. Ioka will now face countryman Ryoji ***unaga, with the event taking place December 31 at Ota-City Gymnasium in Toyko. The fight will air live on TBS-Japan, who formally announced the event Thursday morning.

What a bummer. This would’ve been Ancajas’ first legit test.

***unaga was the only realistical option. ryoji (#6) and tanaka (#8) are the only japanese boxers in wbo's top15. with the traveling ban, the opponent had to be from japan.

****** post. He already fought Nietes and they couldn't rematch NYE anyway since he just had a fight and got his 900th draw. Ancajas fight fell through for obvious reasons...
