Boxing
I think what people are failing to see is the boxing ability that Cotto brings to the table and Manny has yet to do. Cotto adapted in the Mosley fight with different game plans depending on what Mosley brought to the table and I have yet to see Manny adapt in any fight the way Cotto did. Much like most fans I have followed Manny's career since dethroning Lebwabba. And to this day he really never had to adapt in the middle of the fight let alone change the game plan several times during the fight. Manny has had his problems with people but he always stayed true to his style of fighting and found a way to overcome but he never became a boxer instead of a brawler, or a jabber instead of only hooking at will, he never went down and had to dig deep to overcome his opponent. Cotto to me is the better boxer for this reason alone. Forget that Cotto is the naturally bigger guy; forget that he probably packs a harder punch, but accept that he has boxing ability that has been tested and has passed with flying colors. And for those that say well ...Margarito...hey last time I checked Manny isn't 5''11 nor has Manny been at welterweight for a long period of his career. Manny is an incredibly quick fighter but the fact that he is unbalanced when he throws his punches shows how much more he still needs to improve when it comes to boxing. Someone like Cotto will expose the holes in Manny's abilities. 2nd this is no knock on Manny cause we all know that Cotto has holes in his repertoire as well...my only point is that Cotto is more aware of his holes and has been able to overcome when his holes have been exposed. Manny has yet to be exposed in a fashion that has him having to dig deep to get up from the canvas then overcomes the barrage of punches coming his way from a skilled assassin.
