Maidana Can Fight Holt/Peterson/Alexander or Campbell

Three more potential opponents have emerged for a proposed Nov. 28 HBO opening bout involving interim junior welterweight titlist Marcos Maidana. Golden Boy and Top Rank have discussed ex-titleholder Kendall Holt, but another Top Rank fighter, Anthony Peterson, is also in the mix. The Peterson camp requested tapes of Maidana to take a look at him. There also has been discussion of a match with titleholder Devon Alexander, who stopped ex-titlist Junior Witter in eight rounds Aug. 1 to win a vacant belt. Kevin Cunningham, who trains and manages Alexander, really wants the fight. "We would love to give Maidana a shot at the title," he said. "We want the fight, HBO wants the fight, so why isn't [promoter Don King] getting off his ass to make the fight? It's the kind of exposure a young champion like Devon needs. Don should step out of the way and let Devon get on HBO and do his thing with another young, up-and-coming guy like Maidana. He had a huge win over Ortiz, and Devon had a huge win over Witter. Don should step back and let his star shine." Another possibility is former lightweight titlist Nate Campbell, who is also with King. HBO has approved all four fighters for Maidana. One issue that could knock Maidana off the show, however, is a battle over his TV rights in Argentina, according to Maidana co-promoter Golden Boy. Maidana has been fighting on a network there that wants to continue showing his fights, but HBO wants the rights to the bout for its South American arm, which is available in Argentina. - Dan Rafael

Those are all quality fights, Campbell is probably the most beatable for Maidana although he could possibly win against all of them.

I just think slick boxers will give him a lot of trouble, but it would still be interesting because I do not know if those boxer can keep him away for the whole fight.

I picked Alexander because I think overall he is the best/most promising fighter of the lot.

I don't about him fighting Peterson, unless he wants to come up from 135. I think the Alexander fight would be good for both. A tough puncher versus a talented, young titlist.

Maidana-Holt is the one I'd enjoy the most.

All 4 fights could turn out to be action packed fights.

Holt likes to stink it out, but when he faces a chin cracker that applies pressure and throws punches, it can be FOTY material. I like watching Anthony Peterson fight, but he hasn't faced nobody of Maidana's mettle yet, I want to see it. Alexander doesn't convince me yet, I want see what he can do against a contender that comes to fight and win. The Campbell fight might be the most entertaining fight; Maidana throws as many punches as Bradley with more power so he might make Nate look old again, but he's slower so there'd be more opportunities for counters.

          They're all intriguing.

Holt would be the most challenging fight for Maidana and the most entertaining. I think he would lose to Holt in a tough fight, but would have a punchers chance against anyone at jww.

If you live in New Jersey, probability is you're in some sort of legal trouble. I thought it was his manager that had the case and he was cleared. Is it something new?

IMO, all 4 fight would be competitive and intriguing. All that lateral movement and economical counter punching Holt gives gets boring, especially when he outclasses an opponent. Rather see if Peterson or Alexander can handle the heat.

I'd like to see Nate get a shot at a belt.
