    British Prospects Moving to California

Immediately after being ko’d by Terence

Kell mentioned T was better in part due to the superior boxing education in America

why don’t Brit fighters move to the US.

particularly California. It nearly as ******* as the UK.

    much better weather

    and greater sparring partners

The only guy I can remember relocating to Cali in recent memory was Scott Quigg.

There are a fair few British fighters that would definitely benefit from breaking the British mould and British style. It's great to work off solid fundimental but it can make a fighter a bit predictable and stunt their growth as a Boxer.

It can go the other way like with a Prince Naseem Hamed who worked off zero fundimentals and it cost him big time when he came up against real quality. But I would love to see more British fighters spend some time, especially early in their careers, in America or other parts of the world. Or at the least bring foreign trainers to the UK.

Kell & Joshua would been better off coming up in America!

It's a similar story in footy (soccer) England are now one of the best nations and that is because instead of a very British way of playing football that was basic and flawed we have had 25 years of top foreign players playing in our top division and the English youngsters have grown up training along side them or watching the top European leagues and it has created a generation of much improved player.

            We need foreign influence.

The biggest problem in the UK is the coaching IMO. It’s very one dimensional. For example if you gave Crawford a British coach he’d be told to stop switch hitting, keep his hands up and work behind the jab.

That’s obviously a generalisation, there are some coaches over here like the late great Brendan Ingle with more innovative and unique coaching methods but far too many UK coaches are just basic IMO. Even going back to when I was an amateur, I don’t think it’s changed much.

I've been saying for some time that these guys need to start coming stateside and getting some world class sparring. Brits struggle against Mexican fighters in large part because they don't get the type of sparring they need. This is why I recommended Josh Kelly getting with Derrick James and being in camp with Spence/Charlo/Martin and getting some of the best sparring he could get...It doesn't just have to be in California per se, but obviously that's where a good portion of top fighters hold their camps at. Joshua can keep his current trainers but if he can just move his camp to stateside, that would be huge. Fury also mainly trains in Vegas and Taylor is here as well...But I think that may be because Davidson is training Haney?

Callum Smith recently moved his camp to LA with Buddy McGirt RJJ-94-02=GOAT .

You will see a lot of British fighters be good in the amateur game and then not light the world on fire in the pro ranks...Part of that is because Mexico doesn't have a great amateur program since those guys turn professional at such a young age. Brits aren't seeing those types of fighters and then end up staying in the amateur game for too long. One thing you can do is get that type of sparring so you can experience it before the actual fights but that type of sparring is not going to be there in England.
