There have been plenty of corner dads in boxing - Andre berto, Sean Porter, Shane Mosely etc etc etc. what’s most concerning about Lopez is that his father didn’t even seem to notice his sons face was being progressively smashed to pieces round by round. Not even a word after the 11th. Zero concern at all just a blinkered assumption he could still get the knockout. He definitely needs to dump him. Lopez looked pudgy once he’d rehydrated. All water.

The reality was that Kambosos was quicker and had better feet and timing. Lopez looked flat footed and slow in getting his punches off. All props to Kambosos who has behaved according to his position since. I think he’ll surprise a few and hold onto those belts for a while.

Teo blew his wad before he ever got in the ring. On top of that Kambosos came to fight. Great performance for the Aussie.

He was kinda alright before Commy and Loma fights. A young but wise man with promising future and clearer head than most boxers.
But the Commy preparation is what put all on stakes and he had to either beat him or... proving him ballooned on an air with no solid inside. He did that. He even managed to beat Loma afterwards.

And THEN it went south. He couldn't deal with success and he ended up being tenthfold worse that what he claimed Loma being guilty of.
He called Loma a Diva. He ended up being a full Diva himself. He claimed Loma disrespected him and fans after the fight. He fully disrespected Kambosos and fans. He claimed his family lives in Loma's head. Kambosos and his 10 generations live in Lopes' head.

Prior to the fight Kambosos said about Lopez comments of him predicting a first round ko, what about when that doesn't happen and I'm coming out against him for the next round? What's he gonna do for next 11? Gotta wonder if sitting in the corner after the first and having been on his butt, if Lopez was starting to think that himself.

Of course, that's called slowly breaking someone's will, or their belief. That's what getting punched hard in the head or the gut does to a fighter, no matter how strong their will is, pain saps it.

              Thanks Corey.

Couldn't believe the first round. Spent 5 or 6 rounds of juice and still lost it 10-8. Shades of Lopez Snr trying to live through his son which is concerning.

He looked confused between rounds. Like reality was trying to put his ego in check and he couldn't quite understand what was happening to him. And of course his dad was useless. When he was getting caught with straight rights, he was shaking his head the way fighters do when they are trying to say I'm not hurt. And maybe he wasn't. I'm thinking he was doing it out of shock thinking " why is this happening to me? ". He needs to learn that he has no divine right to just turn up and win. He needs to earn it like everybody else.

First off excellent article. Having said that, Teo is in a serious mental health crisis and will need appropriate mental health support. He probably does not realize his father is toxic as they have been enmeshed for so long. Boxing is for so many a way out of incredibly difficult life situations and for many it has proved to be exactly what was needed. In this case, it seems boxing has been the cause of his problems. He's such a gifted fighter it's likely he can still have success but in all likelihood we may be telling the sad story of Teofimo Lopez. A man with promise who never reached his full potential.

Too bad what happened--many thought Lopez could whip Davis, Garcia, Haney & the rest. Now Teo has to get his head straight if he wants to be the top dog again. My advice to Teo--be more humble and get rid of Daddy in the corner. You need a mentor like Mike Tyson had with Cus D'Amato.

You could tell he just wasn't right mentally in the fight especially in the corner. He would go from looking kinda lost when walking back to the corner to a big smile that would quickly dissappear and then almost a look of sadness in his eyes and then a mean look all of a sudden. Things aren't right in his world.
That's what really caught my attention and I had commented on. It looked like he was having a mental breakdown in there. Teofimo Sr's antics/behavior along with Teo Jrs expectations, self doubt, mental instability etc appears to be a burden he could no longer carry/handle. Imo Teo needs to seek professional help before he steps back in that ring.
