So we need to talk about COVID impact on fighters. There's something to this.

    • PEDvetkin catches COVID, recovers but gets smoked by Dillian Whyte in the rematch
    • Shawn Porter catches COVID, recovers but seems to gas out in 6 rounds against Crawford, highly unusual for him
    • Teofimo Lopez catches COVID, recovers but shows up extremely drained, gassed and lacking power en route to a loss against George 'CM Punk' Kambosos
    • Travis Kauffman catches COVID, recovers but looks way off and breathing heavy against Otto 'All In' Wallin (who also caught it and was breathing harder)
    • Tyson Fury catches COVID, recovers and wins, but looks terrible doing so against Deontay Wilder in the third fight
So far, the only fighter I can find that was able to buck the pattern was Jamel Herring, when he put on a clinic against Carl Frampton and retired him, only to get smoked out by Shakur Stevenson the next fight in - which may mean that Frampton had one foot out the door already.

Any other fighters you can recall that appeared to be declined after a COVID finding? Which we know causes long term lung damage?

Interesting point and will be fascinating to see how it affects fighters going forward.

Irene Aldana, the UFC Mexican chick, stated that COVID had completely messed her up and went on to get schooled by Holly Holmes after recovering.

Joe Smith Jr caught it and was hospitalized, had a fight postponed. Will be interesting to see how he does when he returns.

Canelo caught COVID after Smith, before Yildirim. Vergil Ortiz caught it before Maurice Hooker.

A lot of it is coincidence. Mostly everybody has caught COVID in some form. Viral load intake makes a big difference and how long the viruses been alive on surfaces etc. some people have gotten the “cold” or “severe cold” or were in denial about the side effects and never got a covid test.

again a lot of it is coincidence. I remember Gennadiy would get illnesses during his heavy drains which is normal.

I think Teo couldn't stay focused with the layoff.

Fury chose to fight the way based off how he won the second fight.

Porter was getting hit with good body shots

Yep! The long term effects are still something to be discovered, especially amongst athletes. Hell, there's basketball and football players that haven't been the same after having Covid then there's the ones that come back just as they left.

Lol Teo looked like **** because he fought someone who had his number. Loma was not the GOAT, any dumbass that is spoonfed ESPN The Matrix nonsense should wake up by now lol..

135lb is stacked... any top 5 can beat any top 5 on any given date, depends who's night it is and how they prepared. Yall silly people don't know boxing and act like these guys are superheroes.. make more excuses. If your lungs is that ****ed, retire, you're putting your life at risk even more. Povetkin was old and had one foot in retirement, Fury was in Vegas the next day perusing supercars, taking photos with fans, a day after getting COVID, and canceling the fight, lol.. Gotta love boxing revisionists. It wasnt Malik Scott who came up with great training regiments, drills and sparring in camp, plus a formidable gameplan..it was the COVIDs... lolol. Sugar Hill gave Scott props... Fury said Wilder was a different fighter from the two fights and it was harder.. no one mentioned COVID... why are you? Shawn said hes been thinking about retiring since before Errol... said he is old and couldn't train like he used to and had to save his energy for the fight... but it was COVID.... yall crazy lol.

At the elite level, Teofimo sipping wine with his wife while watching the yule log burn might've been a factor in his loss. ****s that deep. Especially if you opponent is grinding in the gym while you're wining and dining having wifey time.. there are in fact levels to this **** and Teo got a ****** ass father in his team who's unprofessional and doesn't and can't keep it 100%. ******* said MSG booed the decision lol and not booed his Son for being delusional about his L.. He needs a real one, an actual professional trainer who is professional in and out the corner, someone who will tell him hes losing the fight, give him some tactical adjustments and spark the fire in him needed to win. His pops cost him that fight. Gave him spoon fed ego strokes and nothing but delusion, no instructions..no urgency.. dude needs to get fired. Teofimo needs someone that'll tell him he might be down 2-4 rounds, you need a KD, and to win the last rounds or a KO.. his pops can't admit none of that because hes a clown who wont own up to his own shortcomings.. that's my 2cents

It's definitely worth some interest or investigation. Povetkin was losing the 1st figgt too so it wasn't a shock, Crawford is better then Porter and Fury is better than Wilder, all correct results.

Teo is supposed to be struggling to make the weight and his ego looked too big to take Kambosos seriously.

But there could well be an issue with a covid sufferers as I know a few who had it ages ago and they still get tired very quick at the Gym or work.

Lopez and Fury both faked Covid. So they don't count
