Who really sold the De La Hoya vs Mayweather card?

The 2007 PPV matchup between the two sold a then record 2.4 million PPVs. Floyd likes to include that total in his PPV count but ODL was the A side then. How much of those sales were generated by Floyd being there or was it mostly Oscar who was the money maker?

Both played their part but De La Hoya was the much bigger star at that point no doubt.

It was a fight that was talked about for a while so it had some hype and boxing was more mainstream then.
It was the first time HBO did a 24/7 series instead of just a one time special.
Floyd definitely stole the show in the build up. His family drama and his money persona was great TV and made the fight a huge success.
People may forget what a mainstream star Oscar was then. Golden Boy promotions became an instant big time promotion just off his name alone.

It was DLH's highest PPV at the time too. It was the highest for both of them.

Floyd played the heel, people wanted to see him loose. DLH would generate PPV buys fighting a fedex driver but not 2 million like he did with floyd, so its both of them. Thats why it was a mega fight.

                Mostly Floyd

Floyd ended up SURPASSING Oscar as a draw

                Floyd became the PPV GOAT

Run the numbers. Compare their other biggest PPVs

                Floyd manny
                Floyd McGregor
                Floyd Alvarez

The question was who sold the De La Hoya/Floyd PPV more.

I say it was about even. Oscar was already a household name while Floyd unveiled the Money schtick and was willing to shuck and jive for the cameras.
