At 34 years old and having fought virtually all the top welterweights, it’s unlikely Porter had any room for improvement. In any case, he stated in the after fight press conference that he had planned on retiring regardless of the fight’s outcome.

The most important thing here is that he will be retiring with all of his faculties in tact. He's still a young man and its time to start enjoying life full time with his family.

I have CRAZY respect for Shawn Porter! He is a hell of a fighter. It takes fighters like him to prove how great some of his opponents are or were. He forced Thurman, Spence, and Crawford to go to another level. He lost the big ones but his resume has to be admired and respected.

Good idea to retire before getting pounded too many times. Bad for the brain. Many fighters stay too long so it's good that Porter is getting out.

Cong**** and big thanks to Showtime Shawn P! I'll admit I wasn't a huge fan of him early on because of his style but he made the "better" fighters dig in their tool bag when he shared the ring with them! He showed us what those guys were made of and never failed to give us his best work in there!

            Enjoy the other side, champ!

I was never a fan of his style and technic but Porter take every elite opponent that he could and put a good fight Everytime. Cudos to fighters like him that makes that the business and greed of boxing doesn't kill the sport yet.

Shawn Porter has a great second career as an analyst. He gives superb commentary during fights. He's one of the best.
