Comments Thread For: Crawford: Long Layoffs Benefited Both Of Us, Being At The Age We At; Bodies Need That Rest
LAS VEGAS - Terence Crawford doesn't envision the longest layoff of his 13-year pro career to negatively impact his performance when he faces Shawn Porter on Saturday night.

He is probably right with the layoff statement. Some fighters need to be active to stay sharp, we shall see at fight night. Regardless how arrogant Crawford is apparently he has taken Porter very serious, a fight he did no want.

As a great fighter you need some form of arrogance or you wouldn’t be were you are however it sounds like you are just another hater whom has no talent except to bash top level athletes whom you will tune in to see anyways. Porter is a high risk low reward type of guy so why would anyone with a mind and business sense want that? Go play ping pong you not good at this!
To think Bud is 34 years old and this is his biggest fight is a joke… criminal how the Spence fight hasn’t happened and doesn’t look like it will be happening anytime soon whoever is to blame.
2019 got us Pac vs. Thurman & Spence vs Porter. We've not had a mega fight at welterweight since. Till tonight...
Let it be the harbinger of all the big fights.
Hoping Spence if fit to play soon. And with the dodgy ****ers at the WBA altruistically deigning to resolve their multi-champion issue, and definitely not just to earn **** loads on a mini-tournament scam, we might actually end up with Crawford, Spence, Porter, Ugas (not forgetting the up-and-comers) fighting each other. Maybe....?
Fighters need to be active, but there is a balance. I think boxers in their prime need to be a 2-3 time a year type of warriors. Not every fight needs to be with elite competition, but activity is needed to sharpen your in ring skills which really only happen (obvious statement of the day) in ring. But as you get older and more experienced, certainly pacing that out some is fine.
I do not care who you are, unless you are recovering from an injury a year or more away from fighting is not good. It seems to affect reaction time and how you pace yourself in the ring. Since both Crawford and Porter have been away about the same amount of time, it certainly isn't an advantage for either man. But I would not be surprised if this was a sloppy fight that had some rough patches.

Yet Canelo isn't much younger and just fought FOUR opponents, three of them champions.
But anyway, this:
“Well, I’m always focused and I’m always in the gym,” Crawford said. “I’m always doing something, you know, so having that down time probably helped me more than it hurted me, being that I’ve been in the sport since I was 7. So, could you imagine, you know, losing weight, playing basketball, playing football, you know, baseball, doing all these sports and, you know, here I am, 34 years old, and the wear and tear on my body. So, it probably helped me more than it hurted me and, you know, we shall see Saturday.”

I think he has Wilder beat on the bold.
I cannot wait to see how you discredit Crawford's victory tonight. You have your typical excuses, referee, bad judging, porter took a dive, etc. I personally would like you to dig deep and come up with something so off the wall that we start to worry about your sanity like we did for wilder after fury just destroyed him in their second fight.

"As a great fighter you need some form of arrogance or you wouldn’t be were you are however it sounds like you are just another hater whom has no talent except to bash top level athletes whom you will tune in to see anyways." you saying that to me in a squeaky voice.
One thing is to have self confidence and another is to be arrogant to the point he is delusional. An athlete needs to be self confident and with a level of arrogance but Crawford speak himself in the third person.
Not a hater, I wish he stepped it up which he is actually doing. Beating Porter convincingly will shut critics up including me. You are coming off as a fan boy.
I'm not into long lay offs, my opinion. The guys behind him got closer and nobody paid for it. Now he has youngsters breathing down his neck and he didn't make any money for it.
