    No Calzaghe vs. Canelo thread?

Canelo the first unified champ at SMW, Calzaghe missed out by some sanctioning body tomfoolery. (I misremembered him being unified, but the IBF stripped him before he fought Kessler?)

Anyway, I know Canelo has obviously campaigned at light heavy against a faded Kessler, but I'd take Calzaghe here (bias Brit!) and in doing so, I don't put any knock on Canelo whatsoever. Calzaghe was simply a much larger man, a 6 footer with almost a 3 inch reach advantage. I'm not saying that size wins fights, but Slapsie obviously has the speed/stamina/footwork to do it. I'm obviously aware that Calzaghe's dimensions are slightly less than Plant's, but Slapsie had a higher skillset than Plant, and more of a dig (even though Plant IS a talented fighter).

Canelo's a fine fighter, but he's lucky that the SMW is a little sparse right now... and that's NOT a knock on him at all, but his skills are letting him overperform at a weight class he shouldn't really be in.

It's like Slapsie once said when they asked him if he'd beat Pacquaio. He said yes, obviously, but if the question was "P4P" he'd have to think about it. They have weight classes for a reason.

If you go back a few months (maybe a year), this question has been posed.

I said Joe then and I say Joe now. His endurance and activity were off the charts, and he was damn tough.

Agreed - I think* - which I didn't bother with all the KO/points options, and just did a straight pick. Canelo's got a solid chin, as we saw in the first GGG fight.

        * I could see Canelo being stopped on cuts via extreme slappage.

Calzaghe stamina and activity was out of this world.

If people haven't read the other thread they'd have no idea... I like it, interthread referencing.

Not really. Don't forget the workrate for a start.
