Usyk is often viewed as being a "bigger Loma" but not as technical, i challenge that premise though.... are there certain technical things in his skillset where you rank him higher than Loma?
technically are their things that Usyk does better than Loma?

Usyk is equal in everything except for strength & chin where hes better(relative to his size, hes better than Loma at this point because Loma isn't as physically gifted) -

Its supposed to be from the rematch, when AJ used his reach to outjab Ruiz(& Ruiz fights like that, fast hands but AJ just kept him at bay just by using his longer arms to stop him from landing with those Trex arms,
just like the gif shows,& it shows Wilder being a girl,& Hearn in between Ruiz & AJ with Fury in the bushes looking better than the lot)Comment

yes his hard drive is slightly more advanced his programming ensures he starts fight straight from the offset instead of round 6 like the earlier models. the earlier model always broke down and needed regular servicing but this Usyk edition is much more durable and hasn't crashed onceComment

Usyk looked pretty technically sound to me in the AJ fight. He really showed his best there. His movement and punch placement was excellent. He showed he had stamina to go 15 rounds. Usyk has great movement for a HW. He is not better at movement/elusiveness than Lomachenko but that’s a tall order due to their sizes. Smaller fighters move a lot better. Fighters like Fury and Usyk who move like welterweights, that’s a rare thing. That was what made Ali so special for his time. He was a big, tall HW for his time, but he moved like a Lightweight.
Usyk is not among the biggest HW’s of his time, but this is what throws me off about him. At HW, the bigger, taller, more athletic boxers prevail. Which is why in the last 15 years we saw Lewis, Vitali, Wlad, Fury, Wilder, AJ be the best at HW. He’s in a HW era where the most athletic boxers are all big, tall guys. And he just beat one of them. So he is obviously a very special fighter. He pretty much negated AJ’s height, weight, athleticism and power while being 6’3”, 220lbs. Sure he got marked up a bit, bruises here and there, but he won clearly.

I think Loma has superior footwork even accounting for the difference in size. Even though Usyk has exceptional footwork for a big guy he's not got anything like the dazzling teleportation-style rapid changes in positioning and angle that Loma has exhibited. When it comes to other physical attributes, I think they're more or less equal in all other aspects.
I do think Usyk has a superior boxing IQ though. There have only really been fleeting moments in most of Usyk's fights where he's not been in control. He's unbeaten and has never really looked in real danger of losing a professional fight by the time the final bell rings - Breidis probably came the closest. Loma on the other hand was taken advantage of by Salido's dirty tactics and got it all wrong for the first half of the fight against Lopez. The thing that really stuck out to me about Usyk in the Joshua fight was that he basically won it with his mind. When it comes to physical attributes, he was, at least on paper, outmatched by AJ, but he won that fight with equal parts sound strategy and force of will - ie. using his mind to make up for the bodily difference. To be fair that's a very rare talent to have, but nevertheless it's something I've never seen Loma do - all of his wins have come pretty much solely off the back of his dazzling skillset, but it's notable that the times when he's struggled the most have been at times when he's not been able to bring them to bear, either because of Salido's dirty tactics that he was permitted to get away with thanks to a lax referee or Lopez utilising his height, reach and heavy hands to dissuade Loma from engaging. I feel that if you could pause time and transplant Usyk's brain into Loma's body in both of those fights, the results would have been a lot different because the correct adjustments would have been made much sooner.Comment

Good post but I will say as far as physical attributes or athletic qualities Usyk has some advantages over Joshua. Things like speed, stamina and agility. It's not just his brain and will that helped him win that fight.I think Loma has superior footwork even accounting for the difference in size. Even though Usyk has exceptional footwork for a big guy he's not got anything like the dazzling teleportation-style rapid changes in positioning and angle that Loma has exhibited. Sure, but on balance I think you'd have to say AJ has better attributes overall. Most people thought that before the fight. Even though Usyk arguably did have better agility and speed, it's not like Joshua is a slouch in those departments, and Joshua had bigger margins of advantage in other crucial areas like height, reach and power. On balance you'd have to say Usyk was up against it, at least physically. For me the question to ask is would a dumber or less strong-willed version of Usyk still win the fight? Personally, I don't think so.Comment
