He has good footwork, but not the finest when compared to the greats. Instead, focus on his body movement and head movement, which are his strongest assets.

His footwork is not elite level. He is not the most athletic, or fighter with the most speed.

But his footwork is educated i.e He knows how to judge distance, and do little step backs here and there.

This is one of the reasons why he has slight issues with slick boxers, whether Alvarez is going forwards, backwards or sideways? His movement and footwork is not really the best.

Alvarez does not close the distance with the ferocity of Mike Tyson, or even a 140-147 pound Ricky Hatton. Everything is one geared, and methodical with Canelo Alvarez 'And against these below par middle-weights, that has been just about enough to beat them'.

So overall his footwork is not terrible, but it is not a elite level attribute of his in my opinion. Alvarez is not defensive genius, on the level of Floyd Mayweather or even a fighter like Bernard Hopkins 'Fighters that in my opinion skill wise, would not of landed on Mayweather & Hopkins have no major issues landing on Alvarez frequently'.
