Katsidis' Trainer Promises Impressive Win With Escobedo

Lightweight Michael Katsidis (25-2, 21 KOs) promises an impressive performance when he faces Vicente Escobedo (21-1, 13 KOs) for the WBO interim-lightweight title on the undercard to Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez welterweight in Las Vegas on September 19. Katsidis' trainer said his fighter won an award and didn't even go to the WBO convention to pick it up. [details]

I have no doubt that his conditioning is great, but I think they should be working on some technique or game plan for future fights.

Brendon Smith is a clown of a trainer. Katsidis is an ordinary technical fighter, but occasionally he seems to think he can box good and he stands back, not doing much, and looks terrible. Like the first few rounds vs Chavez when he was standing back being indecisive, occasionally trying to follow Chavez around, and just getting schooled. Thankfully he woke up, started outhustling Chavez, smothering and letting his hands go, and got the retirement win. When Michael comes forward throwing shots and using his strength up close he's a pretty good fighter. If he does that vs Escobedo he will win. But if he tries to box and isn't aggressive and lets Escobedo keep him at length he's ****ed.

To be honest dude I'm not so sure. As you know I love Mick but I just don't think he has that in him at the elite level. I think he is at his best just trying to go out there and get in wars with guys. He's not like Gatti, he just doesn't have what it takes to implement those skills he needs effectively enough at that level.

That is just my take anyway.

I would just like to see a jab. I would be happy with that.

Escobedo will be a challenge for Katsidis, but Katsidis has faced better competition. With Katsidis, you pretty much expect a great fight. I hope it shows how good undercards help a PPV.

Katisidis has a lot of ability and potential but he doesn't have a trainer to shore up his very rough edges. Regardless I think he will slug his way to victory over Escobedo.
