  • Comments Thread For: Dissuading Canelo is a Big Ask for Plant in Super Middle Showdown

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - I like Caleb Plant. A lot. I like the way he fights. I like how communicative he is in interviews. And I like the fact that I saw him working out in a county park in Las Vegas when my family and I were out there a few months back.

I have a question to ask who has Canelo actually beat since he moved up from middleweight? He beat Fielding, enough said, he then beats Smith who went life and death with Ryder who had lost to Fielding a few fights earlier. He beats a drunk, old as well as a shot Kovalev that I believe absolutely feared Canelo in a Tyson sort of way before he even entered the ring. He also hasn't fought since Canelo KO'ed him and and my bet is that he never fights again. He beats Saunders who's biggest wins were a SD over Eubanks eight years ago and the beating of the one dimensional Lemieux. None of these fighters come close to being world beaters. That also doesn't take into account that Canelo should have lost to Lara and GGG and the second fight was also close. I also clearly remember many in the boxing world claiming that GGG was highly overrated and it would be an easy fight for Canelo before the first fight. Many also believed that the Trout fight was to close to call and Jacobs was was also able to make it a close fight and I felt no need to even mention Floyd. So based on his resume since he moved up I don't understand all the hoopla of him being such monster that can't be beat. As far as Plant is concerned I believe his biggest handicap isn't even his lack of knock out power I believe it is his lack of stamina. I would hope that would have been something he has worked on and he also doesn't seem to have any fear of Canelo. I won't say that lant will win but I do believe that Plant is the best fighter by a long shot that Canelo has faced since he moved up from those pesky middleweights. Remember them the ones who should have won a couple of those fights and made most of them close.

So Canelo has to knock Caleb out. Lots of people are liking on Caleb, because he's a good guy, what ever that's worth. An upset might be good for business and sets up a rematch. Watch out if Caleb is standing at the end.

Meh. Pac-Horn, AJ-Ruiz and Loma-Lopez are all bigger upsets than Canelo-Plant if Plant wins.

Horn and Ruiz were nobodies when they beat Pac and Ruiz.

First of all, for Lyle Fitz to be quoting Jim Lampley , well we got a problem right there. Lampley is one of the big stooges in boxing commentary history. There isnt a dumber boxing guy on the planet. He's horrific in his boxing knowledge. The biggest fake ever. Secondly, Canelo has lost to " boxer " type fighters and ****ers. Forget what the judges tell you, Triple G won both fights. These were Triple G's belts and Canelo didn't take those away from him. Take this to the bank, Canelo wanted nothing to do with a 3rd fight. Only now that Triple G is 40 is Canelo even contemplating it. Canelo is far from unbeatable. He's been beat on a few occasions. The problem now is he has Mayweather's disease. Which is , very selective opponent picking. In fact, besides the Triple G fights, his opponents have been all carefully selected. Especially timing-wise. Big name, downside of career type opponents or just weak opponents with big names. It's genius. But it doesn't fool me. Lyle actually lives near me and we're about the same age and we've actually been to alot of fights the same throughout the years. You don't know me but I read your articles. . Lyle, your slipping. Big time.

Canelo is 31 years old and is favored to beat Plant to become the first man in history to unify the 168 division. Not a small feat.
He probably has 10 more fights in his career so, who do you reckon Canelo should fight and beat so as not to fool you? You must have names at 168 or even 160 and 175.

FYI, I’m rooting for Plant to pull off a huge upset by outboxing Canelo. And I’m speaking as a Canelo fan. I like Plant too and I hope he truly wins.

Canelo will knock Caleb out. Period. Easy Win. He should already be fighting Bertebiev. I wonder if he will be a ble to fight Usyk in a catch weight ? Hehehe

Kovalev fought like a timid cat, not the Krusher of old that fought Ward. Canelo is very impressive, but I see him lose rounds lately.

All Plant has to do is win seven of them, but the judges know Canelo is the cash cow, so he'll have to do even more.

I'm not drinking the clenbuterol kool aid of canelo just yet....he's faced nothing but weak brits and the last real competition he had a lot of folks thought he lost that fight(Jacobs)

Easy for me to see that plant boxes Canelo's head off and wins. He's just too big and too skilled. Canelo either likes them small and skilled or big and minimally skilled.....plant is big and skilled unlike Callum the weak Brit smith.

Plants wins easy. MARK MY WORDS LOL
