The "9 Pound Theory"
The 9 Pound Theory is a theory that in order to beat Mayweather you have to be bigger than Him, and at least outweigh him by 9 pounds.
The 9 Pound Theory was created On April 20, 2002 When Floyd Mayweather face Jose Luis Castillo in a lightweight championship fight, and Jose Luis Castillo came in on fight night 14 pounds over the lightweight limit and weighing "9 Pounds" heavier the Floyd Mayweather who weigh 140 on that night. That decision by Castillo Single Handley created a Theory, Gameplan, and Strategy to somehow beat Mayweather which to this day is still in effect.
To this day Majority People Believe those 9 pounds were MAJORITY OF THE reason Castillo gave Mayweather Problems... and Those 9 pounds People Still believe are what is needed in order to give Mayweather problems. In any future fight he is in.
The Perception of Risk
Therefore, The Problem and Criticism that Haters, Critics, and Honestly Some his Genuine Fans have with Mayweather Choice of Opponents Has never been the CALIBUR, PRESTIGUE, PEDIGREE, or STATUS of the Opponent.
Which should in its own right be taken into Account when Judging an Opponent. But it isn’t in Mayweather's Case.
The Problem has been The Perception of Risk that those previous opponents have Pose to Mayweather.
And the Biggest Perceive RISK That Mayweather has ever taken in his career was and still considered Jose Luis Castillo and the 9 Pounds weight advantage Castillo brought with Him on April 20th 2002.
- This is why People don’t Perceive Marquez as a legitimate Threat.
- This is why People now don’t and didn’t Perceive Hatton as a legitimate Threat
Because neither of them processes the size for the "9 POUND THEORY" to be in effect.
CONTEXT BEHIND THE "9 POUND THEORY"
• The Problem has NEVER and will EVER be the size of Mayweather.
• The so called Problem will always be the size of the opponent
.
The Popular belief in boxing about Mayweather is.
HIS opponents needs to bigger than him to have any kind of chance to beat Mayweather. (Ex. Castillo)
• NOT SMALLER
• NOT THE SAME SIZE
• NOT ALITTLE BIT BIGGER
• BUT A GOOD AMOUNT BIGGER.
So the "9 Pound Theory" can go in effect.
Why does the opponent needs to be bigger than Mayweather to beat Mayweather some might ask?
1. The opponent’s needs to be able withstand Mayweather Power as they tired to bull rush Mayweather... Because nobody in their right mind is going to try and boxed Mayweather AND WIN.
So the only Strategy some people in boxing see that can be successful against Mayweather is to Pressure Floyd, and smothers him.
BUT if that is the only strategy to beat Mayweather.
Than obviously a smaller fighter can not do that without getting knockout.
1. Jesus Chavez tried and failed (TKO)
2. Phillip N'dou tried and failed (TKO)
3. Henry Bruseles tried and failed (TKO)
4. Arturo Gatti tried and failed (TKO)
5. Ricky Hatton tried and failed (TKO)
And Many People believe Marquez will try and failed
As you see...Critics do not want to see Mayweather fight somebody his size or Smaller in which the opponent does not have the physical assets to effectively pressure Mayweather and withstand Mayweather Punches.
Jose Luis Castillo WEIGH 149 in a lightweight fight against Mayweather.
When Mayweather weigh 140.
Mayweather has to be at a Physical Weigh Disadvantage
In order for it to seem like Mayweather has a bigger chance to Lose.
DOUG FISHER One of Mayweather Biggest Haters RAISE THIS POINT:
Mayweather’s defensive prowess enabled him to completely avoid the best shots from bombers like the late Diego Corrales and Arturo Gatti, but he absorbed more than a few shots from the hard-punching likes of Phillip N’dou, Jose Luis Castillo, Judah, De La Hoya and Hatton without missing a beat.
If those naturally bigger fighters couldn’t hurt Mayweather, what chance does Marquez have?
And this is why the Hate kicks in..
Marquez does not present The Perception of RISK because Marquez does not have the size for the The 9 Pound Theory to take effect.
Thats why People why to see Mayweather fight guys like Margarito,Clottey, Cotto, Williams.
Guys who on a skill level dont even compare to Marquez.
But guys on a size level, who have the size for the 9 pound Theory to take effect
QUESTION TO YOU GUYS:
Do you believe in The 9 Pound Theory exist in boxing for Mayweather..?
- IF SO why?
- IF NOT why?
