Trinidad has been dropped multiple times at close range, and Chavez had excellent inside defence, able to slip head shots and block body punches.
Chavez could have nullified Trinidad's power like he did with Rosario, who was also a massive puncher.
Biggest misconceptions about Chavez are that he was a slugger or wasn't slick. He was a great inside fighter and a very good boxer from the outside especially working his way inside. Also, he might have one of the greatest left hooks to the body we ahve ever seen in a fighter.
Plus he had an IRON chin, seriously. I have seen him get hit with shots that would stop most men in their tracks and he shrugged them off. Rosario a HUGE puncher, couldn't even make Chavez blink when he hit him.
I think Chavez actually beats Trinidad by breaking him down and out punching him, just being more active. Trinidad chin was always a question mark and I think that plays a big part in this fight.Last edited by Cuauhtémoc1520; 09-09-2009, 12:52 PM.

A lot of Trinidads knockdowns were flash knock downs. If they were to just fight with their own styles eventually Trinidads power would get to him. Trinidad has trouble with guys that have solid jabs and good technical boxing abilities. (winky/hopkins/dlh)

and the thing with Chavez was that he was systematic...he beat you down, and when you were hurt, the fight basically over, because he would never let you off the hook. his combinations and smart punching either finished you then, or crippled you for the rest of the fight.
the fact that Trinidad got dropped by Cortes, Campas, Carr, Anthony Stephans...just not good signs, especially considering those knockdowns often came from very short punches at close range, which was Chavez's specialty. I can very easily see Chavez connecting flush with a left hook inside Trinidad's wider shots.
Chavez was never someone that got hit with body shots or left hooks, and those were Trinidad's main two weapons for breakign an opponent. Im not saying that Chavez would be the guarenteed winner...he is the smaller man, after all...but I would give him a very good chance of winning.
and Chavez could box pretty well when he needed to anyway. his jab wasnt a main factor in the fight other than a rangefinder or quick pop after the right hand, but I have seen him drop an opponent with his jab.

Chavez was already getting old by the time they wouldve had a chance to fight. Tito was too strong for a lot of WWs. If de la hoya put a hurting on JCC whats to say Tito couldnt have.
I have a feeling your nationalistic views are playing a big roll in trying to expose Champboxpr.
Becaase when it comes to Mexican nationalism you htowntexan are pretty damn bad yourself

and if Campas could get inside so easily against Trinidad, I have a hard time believing that Chavez could not get inside, since he was one of the best fighters of all time when it came to cutting off the ring and effectively closing the distance without taking punches. the only thing that could slow down his advance was a large amount of punches, because admittedly thats the one thing that really irritated Chavez, since he would focus too much on defense.
Trinidad simply did not throw a lot of punches, especially early in the fight, where he would start off with only about 30 a round.

When was the last time in 100+ fights did Chavez get KO'd? I mean, I didn't even see him hurt until the Frankie Randall fight. When Randall knocked him down, it was a major shock to everyone because Chavez was looking unbeatable until then.
I understand Tito is bigger and stronger than Chavez but....
A past his prime Chavez was hanging in there with Oscar, who has a pretty good left hook of his own and is faster and a much better boxer than Tito. Plus, Chavez was never susceptible to the left hook, he was more open for the straight right hand against slick boxers.
Chavez chin was legendary, one of the best ever. He didn't cut, he didn't swell, the man wasn't human in his prime.
I think Tito has a significant advantage in a weight like 147 but if they fought a lower weight let's say 140 or 135 when Tito was younger, Chavez mauls him.
Don't sleep on Chavez, Tito wasn't a great boxer to begin with and his speed is something Chavez wouldn't be shocked by. Chavez broke you down slowly but surely.
Depends on the weight but to think that Tito KO's Chavez is foolish.
Im a idiot because I never agree with your Ass kissing to the USA, so **** yourself!!!!
And not is not foolish, Trinidad is the hardest hitting WW ever along with Hearns and Jackson!!!!
