No Khan do: Roach wouldn't roll out on Pacquiao

No Khan do: Amir would need new trainer to fight Pacman.
Is half a Roach as good as a whole one?
No, that is no kindergarten riddle, it’s a boxing question because the question arises as to where Coach Freddie Roach’s loyalty would lie if and when his top client, Manny Pacquiao, fights rising UK star Amir Khan.
Bob Arum, who likes to pour ****es and salts into future promotional pots even as he concentrates on the boiling over Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto cauldron, informed my British pal Gareth Davies of The Telegraph that a 2009 bout against Da Pacman was offered recently to the Frank Warren-promoted world champion.
On the surface, Khan is a greenhorn and not ripe enough to stand in the same ring with Megamanny at this point.
That’s exactly what Arum told reporter Davies that Khan’s family, which in essence acts as his manager, decided.
Pacquaio now? Nay, nay, no Khan do.
Too much, too soon for a fighter whose next bout appears to be a mandatory title defense against the lightly regarded Dimitriy Salita.
But, just for fun, let’s say the Pinoy Idol does tangle with Roach’s wunderkind, WWFD?
I will tell you what he would do. His loyalty belongs first and foremost to Manny with whom he has earned millions of dollars.
Divided loyalty is an occupational hazard for such an in demand training talent as Roach.
Angelo Dundee faced a similar dilemma when his star client Muhammad Ali fought on an Arum promoted show at the Houston Astrodome against constant sparmate Jimmy Ellis.
Dundee had an easy out as he was the manager of Ellis. So he worked Ellis’ corner as Ali stopped his boyhood rival (back in their amateur days in Louisville).
Roach is not the manager of Khan or Pacman.
I think there’s no question that Khan would have to seek a new lead trainer.
I doubt this fight will ever happen but never say never. Arum licks his chops at the UK TV money that Khan would bring to the table.
But, as this is written, Khan means slightly above zero in America. If he has a few fights on American TV and/or beats more meaningful opponents, that could change.
An ideal “bridge” fight for Khan would be against undebeaten lefty slugger Edwin Valero, who is also under the Arum promotional tent. Nevada is about to license Valero and Arum knows he needs a platform to show Valero off in order to qualify him as Pacquiao fodder.
They say you should never play poker with a guy named Doc.
Arum is that guy but, having said that, the wily Warren is his equal. Both are Hall Of Fame promoters and deservedly so.
Arum made the Khan offer knowing he would get a snappy rejection of same.
But, in doing so, Arum planted a seed which he might harvest later.
No Khan do right now.
But, if it ever occurs, Coach Roach only has one way to go and that is into Packy;s corner.
Roach wouldn’t even consider doing anything else.
Ask me why and I can only say this…
Big man don’t roll like that!
