Pianeta vs Skelton is Set For EU Title on September 19

Francesco Pianeta (18-0, 11 KOs) will defend his EU Heavyweight Title against former European Champion Matt Skelton (22-3, 19 KOs) in Neubrandenburg on September 19. The duo will clash on the undercard of the IBF Middleweight Title fight between Sebastian Sylvester and Giovanni Lorenzo. Pianata is full of respect for his experienced opponent. “Skelton is a tough fighter,” he said. “He was the European Champion and also fought for the WBA Heavyweight Title. It is not easy to box him. He is a strong puncher but I am faster and I will beat him.” [details]

don't get too excited about pianeta yet.drawing with sosnowski means nothing.sosnowski got school by zuri Lawrence 2 years ago(although zuri beat mccline & almost beat Rahman).Skelton, sosnowski, gammar,Williams are regional, european stepping stones.let's see him fight a real contender.

The scoring in Sosnowski-Lawrence was ridiculous, Albert deserved a draw in a close fight. He wasn't "schooled".

Pianeta is coming along very well, though I wish he were a bit faster.

me being from Canada I would consider bahktov or timo Hoffman the European gatekeepers.I'd like him to fight those 2 tough guys or maybe my good old favorite south African frans Botha...i'm interested in his progress.

I got the fight & if zuri can control the pace with his awesome power I'd say he went to school.he clearly won on my card & sosnowski had a built up record vs nobody.Lawrence isn't a bum but he's a trialhorse a future contender must beat.Lawrence is also pushing 40 so he was 36-37 when they fought.sosnowski isn't going anywhere.he did beat a fat,old danny Williams so that's ok but don't be fooled.pianeta will end up like dimitrenko.once they start fighting the top 20 guys(I mean the real best not the hypejobs with bloated records)their stocks will drop faster than a hooker to her knees.beating guys like julius Francis, long, etc means nothing.

Damiani wasn't a bad fighter at all and was controlling the fight with Mercer until that uppercut smashed his face in and his nose exploded. Damiani was the first ever WBO heavyweight titlist (which means nothing) but he was a solid techinician that could give anyone fits. he just didn't take his conditioning seriously and like most longtime amatuer standouts, he never knew his opponents had bodies. It was more of combat chess than combat, and he was one of the best cerebral fighters of his time. Hence why he is such a good trainer for the Italian national team. I doubt Pianeta will be as good as Damiani, but I like the kid anyways.
