He simply does not react well to getting hit and and his stamina is not great. In the first three rounds he allowed Usyk to land those overhand straight lefts and circle him all over the ring. But then Joshua started to adjust and did not go for all the feints and started to land some short right hands when Usyk would feint. It was a great back and forth fight until Usyk started to tag him and just broke Joshua's will. You started to see his body reaction in the last four rounds and he simply started to break down mentally. Usyk started to once again walk to him and back him up and it was a wrap. Joshua's eye got damaged and it was a wrap after that. He wasted too much energy in the early going reacting to every single Usyk feint and paid the price down the stretch of the fight. Joshua started to become a little more conservative after the Klitschko fight and became hesitant after the Ruiz fight and he didn't take advantage of all his openings. I thought starting from the Ruiz rematch he started to box better and even outboxed Usyk in stretches of this fight but he needed to establish his dominance over the smaller man. Not at one point of the fight did you think Joshua was too big and too strong for Usyk.
it's not like Usyk is impossible to hit, but if Joshua does indeed invoke the rematch clause, he's going to have to try to hurt Usyk when he has the chance to do so. The body shots are what bothered Usyk the most but there was nothing coming after those shots. Will he win the rematch? Probably not, but I would love to see him give it a go and see if he can get some of the killer instinct he had in his early part of his career.
Very good fight though! Loved every minute of it!
