for me, it is completely dependent on who we are talking about.
guys like james toney and wladimir klitschko have 50 plus fights under their belt and are still fighting.
heavyweights, as an example, have seemed to get bigger through the years. and more athletic for the most part. so, it seems that modern heavies have the edge in that department.
but older heavies seemd more rough, and mentally had more of a "fight til ya fall" attitude. sure, vitali is as tough as any heavy ever imo, but he is more an exception.
i have seen countless fighters, not just in hvywght div, that seem to give up mentally more quickly if they are down on the cards a few rounds.
part of these changes are because boxers can get paid better. this, also means that they dont have to fight 4, 5, and 6 times per year.
