    Why does the Ref wipe the gloves of a fighter?

            Huh? That made no sense. I think he's talking about when a boxer falls down and the ref wipes the boxer's gloves on his (the ref's) stomach. This is for the following reason:
            so that the boxer doesn't pick up any dirt and other grainy materials from the floor of the ring mat onto his gloves so that when he punches the other fighter in the face he won't be rubbing irritants, dust, sharp matter, etc into the other fighter's face. For instance, even if there's a little dirt and sand like particles on the floor they will stick to the surface of the front of a boxer's glove and when he punches his opponent in the face that little dirt-like matter and sand-like particles will cause the opponent's face to be more easily torn and cut, etc.
