Comments Thread For: Joe Smith Tests Positive For COVID, Oct. 30 Title Defense Versus Umar Salamov Postponed

Joe Smith Jr. will have to wait a little longer for his first title defense. The reigning WBO light heavyweight titlist will be sidelined for an undetermined amount of time after recently testing positive for COVID. The development puts on hold a planned showdown with mandatory challenger Umar Salamov, which was being eyed for October 30 on an ESPN platform from Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theater in New York City.

Dang, just read he was hospitalized and was not doing so good. Hope he gets better and forget rescheduling the fight as he needs to get his health back on track first.

Yeah, really unfortunate. Just got to hope he recovers and is able to train soon.

Boxing is the Wild West……so many athletes choosing not to get the vaccine and so many catching the virus. Joe is young and in professional athletic shape, if he can be hospitalised for it it’s easy to see how it kills other people

Wishing Joe a member of my neighborhood a complete recovery. This will surely
change his mindset on the dangers of the virus and probably help save some
lives. I don't wish harm on anyone but it's a reality check when it hits home.

I haven't seen any comments from Bob Arum!
