To say, oh but it's only in the UK, he flopped in the US or to say it's a media construct, the public are easily swayed is to miss the point. As the article points out, he is bigger in the UK than Lennox Lewis was when Lewis was fighting Holyfield and Tyson. That's pretty amazing. Being big in America would be an extra level, but he doesn't have to have that for it already to be an amazing level of success. He's as big in the UK as any boxer has ever been. And that's with boxing being nowhere near a big a sport as it used to be. That is amazing in itself. And as for the latter, about how easily swayed the public is -- his singular popularity suggests this isn't true. If it is so eaily created, the media would have made an AJ before and would make another AJ after. Or have someone close to fight in the gaps when he isn't fighting. But there is no-one close in the UK.
he’s probably more popular than Lewis because if the fact that they saw him come up the amateur ranks and represent them in the Olympics. There’s more emotionally invested in olympians similar to sugar Ray and Oscar in America. Lewis represented Canada in the Olympics because that’s where he was raised and learned to box. His representation of the Uk as a pro was likely more of a calculated decision based on the larger more passionate fan base.

Joshua ticks all the boxes for today's Woke society, that's the biggest reason for his popularity. I do give him credit for staying active and seeking out challenges

Just needed someone to say was bigger than AJ at selling out stadiums and failed miserably. Next it'll be they built a purpose built stadium in Saudi for Pacman also.

This comment is wasted here, Daily Mail readers would love you. Just maybe throw in the word "snowflake" somewhere too...

Joshua ticks all the boxes for every era of boxing mate, grow up.

Actually a lot of people generally dislike AJ because he doesn’t have a view or opinion on hardly anything and is seen as fake. He has occasionally given support to *** but he tries to stay neutral on everything so that his money and brand is safe.

He was also a superstar in the UK before the woke movement really gained steam. I actually like him for the fact he doesn’t wade into politics often and just focuses on the fighting.
