Last night I had a thread pulled off of this site because I made derogatory remarks concerning a potential Floyd vs. Tszyu match, because I felt that this showdown was just as inconceivable as a Gatti-Mayweather fight.
Just an FYI to the nieve: just because ESPN and/or various internet sites choose to report on rumors concerning potential matchups, DOES NOT MAKE THEM FACT. The entire concept of a Gatti-Mayweather fight was inconceivable from day 1 for various reasons, one of those being that Atlantic City is not a neutral site (I know I beat this point to death already, but it is a factor nonetheless).
Mr Rick Reeno pointed out that it was not a venue factor, but a money factor on Floyd's part. Well Mr. Reeno, I agree with you, but the points go hand-in-hand. Floyd wanted more scratch because he's traveling into the backyard of the champ. At a neutral site, a 50-50 split would go over much better. YES I KNOW, Gatti's the quote-unquote champion, and he's the attraction, but Floyd is the superior athlete, and superior athletes hate to take a backseat to anybody (ex. he skipped out on a press conference for his rematch w/ Castillo because Klitschko got the nod for the Main Event that night vs. McCline)...this is no excuse for Floyd's behavior, this is just the essence of how spoiled, talented athletes behave in these situations.
Regardless of anybody's feelings on the matter, the fact is that this fight WON'T HAPPEN. This is why I drew comparisons to Leonard-Pryor and Bowe-Lewis, on paper the fights make sense, and they make great conversation, but neither side of the party would ever conceivably put themselves into a fight of that magnitude at that point in their respective careers. Gatti has 3-4 good fights left in him, as long as one of those isn't against Floyd. Mayweather, for his part, won't risk his undefeated record against someone as tough as Gatti if the $$$ isn't huge.
Both sides will continue to politic and debate, but the fact is that THIS FIGHT WON'T HAPPEN, so every post concerning the potential fight is SPAM (equally as ridiculous as my Floyd-Kostya post last night).
Thanks to everyone, Boxingscene.com is the Hit!
